Jacob Koenig was born between 1755 and 1765. |
Marriage |

Death |
between 24 December 1812 and 13 February 1813 |
Jacob Koenig died between 24 December 1812 and 13 February 1813 at Westmoreland County, PA.3 |
Note |
|
I cannot prove that the Charles King who lived in Westmoreland County in the 1820 and 1830 census was the Charles mentioned in the will, but he's the only Charles King in the county and he lived in the same township as Jacob, the deceased. Then that Charles disappeared from Westmoreland census and a Charles King appeared in the census of Armstrong County in the 1840 census with a family that is a match for that of the Westmoreland Charles King except that the older children are gone. Also, Bonnie Schultz, who has more information than I on the family, makes the connection from Jacob King to son Charles in Armstrong and then to Mary Ann as a daughter of Charles. Needs more research. |
Census |
1800 |
Jacob Koenig appeared on the census of 1800 at Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, PA, as follows: 42010-00010. In the same township and listed next to Jacob in the "K" list was Henry King 10010-10100. I wonder if Henry was brother. Based on Jacob's will mentioning "schooling" for George, Andrew and Henry in 1812, Henry the son couldn't be old enough to have his own household 12 years earlier.4 |
Census |

Jacob Koenig appeared on the census of 1810 at Washington Township, Westmoreland County, PA, as follows: 01401-00001.5 |

24 December 1812 |
Jacob Koenig left a will on 24 December 1812 at Washington Township, Westmoreland County, PA. In the Name of God, Amen. I Jacob King of Washington Township Westmoreland County and State of Pennsylvania being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and understanding blessed be God for the same, but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and publish this my last Will & Testament in this manner & form following, to wit. Principally and first I commend my immortal soul to God who gave it & my body to the earth to be buried in a decent manner at the discretion of my family or my Executors hereinafter named & as to such wordly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bestow on me in this life I give and dispose of the same in the following manner, to wit. Item 1st. I give and bequeath unto my Son John King [blank space in will book] valued at twenty five dollars. Item 4th. I give and bequeath unto my Son Jacob King a bay filly valued at twenty five dollars. Item 5th. I give & bequeath unto my son Andrew King the sorrel mare valued at thirty dollars. Item #6 I give & bequeath unto my son Henery King the old bay mare valued at forty dollars. Item. Likewise I devise that my plantation & all my other property not mentioned before may be sold by my Executors hereafter named & all my just and lawful debts to be paid out of the money arising therefrom & the remainder to be divided equally between my beloved wife Marey and the rest of my children so as to make their shares equal including what I have already mentioned to them. Likewise I give & bequeath my silver watch unto my wife Marey & to my eldest Son Charles I give and bequeath three dollars as a gift above the rest of my children. Likewise I constitute & appoint Samuel Paul Esquire and Andrew Love Executors of this my last Will and Testament & give them full power to settle my Estate as I have mentioned above. Jacob King and Charles King appeared on the census of 1820 at Washington Twp, Westmoreland County, PA, as follows: Charles King 200110-20100. In the same township, and next to Charles on a non-alphabetized list was Jacob King 100120-10111. Since there were 6 brothers, and their father died in 1813, I assume that the 5 male adults in these two households are five of the 6 brothers. There are three adult women in Jacob's household. I would guess that the older woman is Mary, their mother and the two younger ones are Jacob's wife and the wife of one of the brothers living with them.2 |
