KATE ELLIS DECOURSEY

By Frank (Francis Eugene) DeCoursey

She was Grandpa's second wife. Her name was Ellis. They married around 1918 and he died in 1932. She was a native American 1 of which there were many in KCK. She has half Wyandotte and had a family in K.C. of which several are still left.
To allow anyone's suggestion to question her headrites - The Wyandottes were very poor, the rich wages were in Oklahoma.

1 I have found no other evidence of her Native American heritage. In census records her parents are listed as being born in Ireland. This idea may come from missinterpretation of wording in her obituary, where it states that she was "Native of Wyandotte", in the sense that she was born in Wyandotte County, Kansas.
