John was the eldest of Patrick Wickham and Margaret Doyle's 11 children. He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on 5 July 1862. In about 1864 the family moved to the Boulder, Montana area, where most of them remained for the rest of their lives. John's father, a stock farmer, was the only one of the Wickham family to leave Council Bluffs, where they had settled after emigrating from Ireland in the 1850's. John married Ida W. Stivers in 1900, they had two children. He lived another seven years after this birthday, dying in Montana on 11 August 1945. Related Items:

The Independent Record (Helena, Montana) Saturday, May 14, 1938, p. 6 From Over the State Boulder News CELEBRATES 76TH BIRTHDAY Mr. Wickham was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, coming to Virginia City, Mont., when a small child, later coming to the Boulder valley where he has been engaged in ranching and stockraising ever since with the exception of the time he spent fighting in the Spanish-American war. He retired from his ranch duties two years ago and moved to Boulder where he now resides. He is an active member of the Montana Society of Pioneers, never failing to attend their annual meetings. He has a wife and son and daughter. |
