Death Certificate of
George J. Becker

(1866 - 1932)

George was the son of James W. (De)Coursey's younger sister Elizabeth. She was born in Bangor, Maine in 1835. She married George M. Becker in Leavenworth in 1865, their only child George was born about a year later. Elizabeth died 4 days after his birth, nothing is known about the life of George Sr. He appears to have either died or left, as George was raised in his uncle James' family. He did not marry, and lived with the DeCoursey family on their farm until around 1907 when most of them had moved to Kansas City. It appears he stayed in Leavenworth, working as a farm manager on a farm in High Prairie Township that was owned by his cousin Edwin E. in 1905 and might have been James (De)Coursey's Stone Hinge. Four years before his death, in about 1928, he moved to neighboring Atchison County, Kansas.

1 4 years residence in Atchison means George would have moved there about 1928. I believe he lived in Leavenworth previously. I have been unable to locate him in the 1930 US census.
2 George Becker Sr. is believed to have been born in Kansas, though I have not been able to find any trace of him or his family.
3 Elizabeth (Coursey) Becker was James William Coursey's sister. She is believed to have been born in Maine. She died on 16 Sep 1866 probably from complications of childbirth, as George was born on the 12th. His father also died in 1866. George was raised by his uncle James W. and wife Mary.
4 Harry (Thomas H.) DeCoursey was one of James W.'s sons, and therefore George's cousin.
5 Myocarditis is an inflammation or degeneration of the heart muscle. It causes symptoms of heart failure, which may mimic a heart attack. It is an uncommon disorder most often caused by viral infection, but may also appear as a primary disease in adults or as a degenerative disease of old age.
