Death Certificate of
Mary Josephine (Connelly) Fitzpatrick

(1859 - 1925)

Mary Connelly was the oldest of Gregory Connelly and Hannah McDonnell's 9 children to survive to adulthood. Her mother Hannah was born in County Mayo, Ireland, the daughter of Michael McDonnell and Mary Needham. Very little is known about her father, who was also Irish. Mary was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on Dec. 1, 1859. Except for a few years in Tennessee in the early 1860's she spent most of her childhood in Cincinnati, where her McDonnell relatives also lived. After her father's death (or disappearance) her mother moved with her and her silbings across the Ohio River to Ludlow, Kentucky. Most of them, inluding Mary, spent the rest of their lives there. In 1880 Mary married James A. Fitzpatrick of Scotland. He worked as a railroad engineer. They had eight children, five of whom reached adulthood.
