Death Certificate of
James Crowley

(1845 - 1925)

James was born in Ireland on Dec. 18, 1845. He was the son of Patrick and Mary (O'Connor) Crowley. He and his parents emigrated to the United States around 1850. The family settled in Adrian, Lenawee, Michigan where at least 3 more children were born. About 1873 James married Mary Ann Murray, whose family had a farm in nearby Ogden Township. In 1870 she was living in Adrian, working as a domestic servant for a lawyer. Shortly after their marriage James and Mary moved to Indiana, where their first child was born. About a year later they moved to Kansas City, Kansas where they lived until 1880, when they moved back to Adrian. Mary's sister Sarah met her husband Michael McManus while staying with them in Kansas, in the 1880 census the Crowleys and Michael are living on the same street. James and Mary had 9 children, 8 of whom reached adulthood. Two of their sons, Francis and Grover, returned to Kansas City while the rest of the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio around 1915 where they spent the rest of their lives. James appears to have worked as an automobile laborer.
