26 years in Kansas City would mean he moved there from Leavenworth about 1906, which is supported by other sources.
Catherine was Edwin's second wife. His first wife Mary McCormick died in 1909. Edwin and Catherine were married in 1918. It was her second marriage as well, her first husband, with whom she had three children, was John Ellis. Catherine's maiden name is unknown, though sources indicate it may have been Downs.
Edwin was most likely born in McCamish Township in Johnson County, Kansas, not Leavenworth. Sources indicate his parents settled there in March of 1858, and they are enumerated living there in the 1859 Kansas Territorial census.
Mary Murphy was not born in Illinois, but rather in Ontario, Canada. She and her family did, however, live in Stephenson County, Illinois. She and James were married there in 1857.
Hemiplegia is the total paralysis of the arm, leg, and trunk on the same side of the body (in this case the left side). It is most often caused by stroke, but can also be caused by a variety of other things.
Dr. George Morris Gray was apparently a very prominent physician in Kansas City. Another biography on him from 1912 can be found here. He was also mayor of the city for a short period of time in 1906 and 1907.
