Death Certificate of
Hannah (McDonnell) Connelly
(1838 - 1916)![]()
Hannah McDonnell was the daughter of Michael McDonnell and Mary Needham, the sixth of their eight children. She was born in County Galway, Ireland in 1835 and emigrated to the United States with her family around 1850. After living in New York for a short time the family settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. She married Gregory Connelly of Ireland on October 19, 1854 in Cincinnati. Hannah was only 16 years old. Very little is known about Gregory other than that he was an engineer. Hannah and Gregory had nine children, four of whom reached adulthood. Except for a couple years in Tennessee around 1860 they lived in Cincinnati. Gregory either dies or leaves the family at some point between 1867 and 1870, around the time of the birth of their youngest child. Hannah was left alone with six children under the age of ten. She did not remarry. After Gregory's death Hannah and her children moved across the river to the small town of Ludlow, Kentucky, where most of them spent the rest of their lives.
Hannah and Gregory's were: Mary J. (married James A. Fitzpatrick), Andrew (did not marry, died at the age of 25), Catherine A. (married John H. Terry), Patrick (probably died young), Michael J. (married Emma case) and Hannah (died at the age of 13). They also had three more children who died at a young age.
