Marriage Record of
Michael McManus and Sarah Murray
25 Nov 1880, Wyandotte County, Kansas

This is the record for Michael McManus' second marriage to Sarah Murray, the daughter of Michael and Ann (McBride) Murray, both of Ireland. He married his first wife, Elizabeth Mackin, in December 1875. Both Elizabeth and their infant son died less than two years later in 1877. In the 1880 federal census, taken in June about four months before they were married, Michael McManus and Sarah Murray are living on the same street in the city of Wyandotte, Kansas. Michael is a widower, and is living with his Mackin in-laws. Sarah is living with her sister Mary (Murray) Crowley and her family. Mary and James Crowley had been in Kansas for about five years. It is not known how long Sarah had been living with them. Sarah and Mary were born in Erie County, Ohio, their family moved to southern Michigan when they were in their early teens. Michael and Sarah had two children, Julia A. (married James H. DeCoursey) and Mary J. (married Clay Buchan). Michael died in 1909. Both their daughters died in the early 1920's. In about 1929 Sarah moved back to Michigan to live with her sister Sophia, it is presumed she died and is buried there.
