Death Notice for
Mary Edythe Barrett
(1897 - 1915)
Edythe, as she was known, was the second born of Mary Rebecca DeCoursey and Charles F. Barrett's three children. Charles was born in Stephenson County, Illinois, where Mary's parents Mary Murphy and James DeCoursey had lived before coming to Kansas. It is possible that Mary and Charles met when Mary was in Illinois visiting her mother's family. After their marriage in about 1889, they made their home in Stephenson County. Charles died in Illinois in 1908. In about 1912 Mary and her children moved to Kansas City, Missouri, presumably to be closer to Mary's family who lived in Leavenworth and Kansas City, Kansas. Edythe died there at the age of 18 of tuberculosis. The family is buried in Lena, Illinois.
