Clifford J. Mullen, Jr., M.D., 65, of Kansas City, KS, died Monday, December 22, 2003, at Providence Medical Center. The Funeral Liturgy will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 27 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS, 66112. Friends may call 1-4 p.m. Friday at the church where a vigil prayer service will be held at 3 p.m. The family suggests donations may be made to the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired, 3101 Main, Kansas City, MO, or to the Bishop Ward Science Department, or that blood be given to the Community Blood Center in Dr. Mullen's memory, 4040 Main, Kansas City, MO, 64111.Clifford was born August 10, 1938, in Kansas City, KS, and lived most of his life in the Kansas City area. He graduated from Bishop Ward High School and from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor in Science in Chemistry. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and served his internship at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita and his residency at the University of Pennsylvania Scheie Eye Institute. Clifford was a Captain in the US Army Reserves Medical Corps. Dr. Mullen practiced medicine with his father for 10 years from 1968-1978, and was in private practice for 25 years before joining the Medical Surgical Eyecare Group this past April. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Dr. Mullen is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy Kay Mullen, of the home; three daughters, Elizabeth Warner and her husband Wayne of Altoona, IA, Anne Dema and husband Jeff, Liberty, MO, Caroline Brown and husband Gary, Kansas City, KS; son Clifford J. Mullen III and wife Elizabeth, Colorado Springs, CO; brother Rev. Michael Mullen, Pastor of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Kansas City, KS; sister Barbara Jean Gunderman, Prairie Village, KS; 10 grandchildren, Megan Clifford, and Cole Warner, Emily Catherine and Luke Dema, Nicolas and Zachary Brown; and Regan and Madeline Mullen. Our Dad was a devoted and loving Husband, Father, and "Papa."
