John was the fifth of Edwin E. and Mary (McCormick) DeCoursey's six children. He was born in Alma, Colorado on February 22, 1890 or 1892 and died there February 28, 1893. John is buried in Buckskin Cemetery north west of Alma in a fenced in section with some of his Kilduff and Bishop relatives. This death notice resolves a controversy regarding John's date of death. According to his gravestone he was born Feb. 22, 1890 and died in December 1901. Census records indicate that John actually died before 1895 as he is not listed with his family in the 1895 or 1900 censuses and mother Mary states in 1900 that she has given birth to six children of which five were living. Why the date on his gravestone is so far off is not known. It could be that it was placed there long after his death. Which year of birth is correct has not been determined. Related Items:
