Obituary of
James William "Jake" DeCoursey III
(1900 - 1965)

Jake was the only child of James W. DeCoursey II and his second wife Anna Thompson. He was born in Leavenworth on Jan 10, 1900 and lived his whole life in there, working in the family dairy business. His father died when he was only 15 years old, and his mother was institutionalized around the same time, so he was cared for by his grandmother Margaret (McGonigle) Thompson, who had lived with the family since he was born. In 1922 he married Helen A. Shaughnessy, daughter of James J. and Elizabeth (Wyrick) Shaughnessy. They had two children, a daughter Mary and son James W. IV.
