Obituary and Death Notice of
Edward Francis Murphy
(1873 - 1955)


Edward F. Murphy was the fourth of Edward Murphy and Honorah "Nora" Hughes' six children. He was born and grew up on the family farm outside of Council Bluffs, Iowa. His father died in 1880, and since the time they were old enough he and his twin brother James helped their mother run the farm, living there with her until her death in 1925.

Obituaries
Edward Murphy
      Edward Francis Murphy, 79, 136 Glen Ave., died Thursday at a local hospital following a three-week illness.
      He was a lifelong resident of Council Bluffs and a retired farmer. Mr. Murphy had farmed for many years west of Manawa. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
      Survivors include: three nephews, George Ruby of Omaha; James Ruby of Vallejo, Calif., and John Ruby of Long Beach, Calif., and a brother-in-law, Richard Ruby, of Omaha.
      Beem-Belford Funeral Home is in charge.

Funerals
      Requiem Mass for Edward Francis Murphy, 79, 136 Glen Ave., will be celebrated at 10 a m Monday at St. Francis Catholic Church by Msgr. James P. Danahey. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
      Rosary recitation will be at 8 p. m. Sunday at the Beem-Belford Funeral Home.
      Mr. Murphy died at a local hospital following a three-weeks illness.

Murphy Estate
To Three Nephews

      Edward Murphy, 79, 136 Glen Ave. retired farmer who died last May 12, left an estate with an estimated gross valuation of $14,473 1 according to the inventory filed Tuesday afternoon in District Court.
      Heirs listed are: three nephews, George E. Ruby of Omaha, James Ruby of Vallejo, Calif., and John Ruby of Long Beach, Calif.

1 $14,473 had about the same "purchasing power" in 1955 as $109,000 does today (2006).
