Mrs. DeCoursey was the daughter of Irish immigrants John and Ellen (McInerny) Clune. She attended Blessed Sacrament grade school and Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, KS, and graduated from St. Mary's College of Leavenworth, KS. Helen Clune married Vincent DeCoursey in 1940. Mr. DeCoursey passed away in 1991. Her six sons and daughters-in-law survive Mrs. DeCoursey: Vincent Jr. and Mary Ellen, Thomas and Joy, Robert and Susan, David and Joanne, Stephen and Theresa, and John and Joan. She is survived by her 14 grandchildren: Sarah, Jan, Elisabeth, Julia, Kathryn, Matthew, Sean, Donegan, Robin, Kellen, Devin, Robert, Michael and Emily. Her sister, Patrice Malley of Alexandria, VA, and her brothers, Peter of Kansas City, MO, and Patrick of Leawood, KS, survive her. Her brothers John and Fr. Thomas predeceased her.
Mrs. DeCoursey dedicated her life to her family and her church. Her commitments were recognized in 1987 when she was named a Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. She was active for years with the Ladies of Charity and the Junior League of Wyandotte and Johnson Counties. She was a volunteer at St. Ann's Church, Rockhurst High School, and St. Mary's College. Her family remembers her as a wonderful mother and grandmother and a loving wife blessed with a remarkable sense of humor. Her friends -- and there have been many -- remember her graciousness and dignity. Those who saw her in her end struggle know her for her courage.
