Honora "Nora" (Hughes) Murphy was the eldest daughter of John and Kate Hughes, and a half-sister of Martin Hughes. She was born in County Mayo, Ireland and emigrated to the U.S. in the late 1860's. She married Edward Murphy on 22 April 1868 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They had six children, Katherine (who married Richard Ruby), John E., Ellen (died young), twins Edward F. and James J., and Anne (died young). After Nora's husband died in 1880 she continued to run the family farm, later with the help of sons Edward and James.

Aged Woman Who Came Here from Ireland
Lived 56 Years in Same Place
Mrs. Nora MURPHY, aged 84 years, a pioneer of Lewis township, died at her home at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon. She was born in County Mayo, Ireland, and had lived on the Lewis township place for fifty-six years, coming before the railroads to this section. She is survived by two sons, James and Edward, at home, a daughter, Mrs. Catherine Ruby, Omaha, and three grandsons, John, James and George Ruby of Omaha. The body was removed to the Beem-Belford funeral home and will be taken to the family home Friday evening. Funeral announcements will be made later.

Funerals
The body of Mrs. Nora Murphy was removed Friday from the Beem-Belford funeral home to the family home in Lewis township and funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9 o'clock at the St. Francis Church, Monsignor F. P. McManus afficiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery.
