Loretta was the daughter of Francis C. "Frank" and Catherine C. "Kate" (Cotter) DeCoursey, the seventh born of their nine children. Loretta had a twin sister named Lorraine who died when she was only a year old. In 1947 she married Harry C. Foster, also a Kansas City native. They had eight children. Harry owned a pharmacy business in Kansas City.

Loretta DeCoursey Foster, 73, formerly of Kansas City, KS, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 1997, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, MO. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Kansas City, KS. Entombment will follow in Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, Kansas City, KS. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Joseph A. Butler & Son Funeral Home, 19th & Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, KS, where the Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. The family suggests memorials to Kaw Valley Center, 4300 Brenner Drive, Kansas City, KS 66104, or to the LeeAnn Britain Infant Development Center, Shawnee Mission Medical Center, 9100 W. 74th St., Shawnee Mission, KS 66204.

Mrs. Foster was born in Kansas City, KS, and was a lifelong area resident. Her husband, Harry C. Foster, died October 17, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her twin, Lorraine DeCoursey, sisters, Rita DeCoursey, Jean Morrisey and Mary Martin, as well as a brother, Joe DeCoursey. She leaves four sons, James F. Foster, his wife, Eva, and their children, Michael, Lauren and David, Lake Quivira, KS, Stephen F. Foster, Berkeley, CA, Thomas E. Foster, his wife, Barbara, and their children, Anne, Bill and Nick, Leawood, KS, Michael P. Foster, his wife, Pat, and their daughters, Kate and Margaret, Clive, IA; four daughters, Lorraine McEwen, her husband, John, and their daughters, Sheila, Kate, Ellen and Norie, Topeka, KS, Anne Roberts, her husband, Dave, and their children, Matt, Sally and Andy, Kansas City, KS, Nora Quitno, her husband, Neal, and their family, Elizabeth, Carolyn and Andrew, Nevada, MO, Kate Baird, her husband, Ted, and their children, Mary, Emily and Dan, Lenexa, KS; a brother, Frank DeCoursey, Wichita, KS; two sisters, Helen Ruysser, Mission Hills, KS, and Theresa Foley, Weston, MO.

Survivors: sons, James of Lake Quivera, Stephen of Berkeley, Calif., Thomas of Leawood, Michael of Clive, Iowa; daughters, Lorraine McEwen of Topeka, Anne Robert of Kansas City, Kan., Nora Quitno of Nevada, Mo., Kate Baird of Lenexa; brother, Frank DeCoursey of Wichita; sisters, Helen Ruysser of Mission Hills, Theresa Foley of Weston, Mo.; 21 grandchildren. Memorials have been established with the Kaw Valley Center, Kansas City, Kan., and the LeeAnn Britain Infant Development Center, c/o Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
