Mary was the daughter of James W. and Mary McCormick, both of Ireland. She was born on the family farm a few miles outside of Dushore, Pennsylvania in 1852, the seventh born of their 12 known children. Two of her brothers died at a young age, and according to her father's will written in 1883 another two brothers had gone missing. In the late 1870's she went to Colorado

The Death of Mrs. Mary DeCoursey.
      Mrs. Mary DeCoursey, 52 years old, the wife of E. E. DeCoursey, president of the DeCoursey Pure Milk Company, died at 3 o'clock this morning at her home, 731 Tauromee Avenue, Kansas City, Kas. She is survived by her husband, four sons and one daughter. Sister Mary Digna 1 of Butte, Mont., is a sister. Another sister, Mrs. M. J. Sullivan,2 and a brother, Stephen McCormick, reside in this city. The burial will be at Leavenworth, where Mrs. DeCoursey lived ten years before coming to the city. Funeral services will be in the Cathedral at Leavenworth at 9 o'clock Monday morning.


1 Sister Mary Digna was Mary's older sister Margaret. She entered the noviate in June 1882.
2 Mary's youngest sister Ellen married Michael Sullivan in Colorado in 1904.
