Floppy DisksFormatting
I have heard about the 1.7 meg and would like to buy some but can't find them here.
I don't know if you can buy them as it was originated by Microsoft to handle the installation of Win 3.1. They had files that just couldn't be put on a standard floppy.
You can download a copy from here. It is shareware, but the version that I've been using doesn't seem to have a nag screen. I think that this is a newer version and it may have one.

Labeling
I found a tape called Safe-Release Masking Tape (Scotch Brand 2070) that
has the same adhesive as sticky notes. It bonds secure enough to put on a floppy and put into the drive, yet will peel off like sticky notes. We used to use a correction tape at work, (Correction & Cover-up Tape, Scotch 658) that carries the Post-it brand on the dispenser. It appears that the tape is the same on both and works great. I use it on the outside of backup tapes for marking, printer ink cartridge boxes and CD jewel boxes for temporary labeling. I have since found that there is a masking tape designed for tender surfaces such as wallpaper and fresh paint. It has the same adhesive as 'sticky notes' and will release easily when needed. It bonds well enough that it can be placed on a floppy disk and inserted into Drive A: without releasing. Do not use directly on CD disks as it will upset the balance, but it works fine on a Jewel case as temporary marking.Juliette Adds:
My newbie tip concerns the labels on floppy disks. We use wide masking tape, cutting off a section to fit the floppy label area. It is easy to apply and remove, leaves no residue and is very inexpensive!
"Wayne Jones" <[email protected] has reported these:
One other source for removable disk labels is Avery Labels, Number 6490.
The title printed on the label is "Avery Remove'Em Laser Diskette Labels #6490". Microsoft Word 97 and other word processing programs have this template built in -- under the TOOLS -> LABELS menu. They are really easy and great to use! You should be able to get them from almost any office supply store.
