SFC (System File Checker) Use

SFC Use

With Win98, there is a utility called SFC.  You can use this to extract the Kernel32.dll or any other system file from the .cab files.  Just go to Start, Run and enter SFC, then press Enter.  Now go to the LOWER portion of the window that comes up and mark the radio button in the lower left portion.  This will allow you to put in the name of the file that you want to extract.  (Be sure that you spell it correctly though <G>).  If you have the Win98 CD, then when it asks were to get the file, point it in that direction.  If you only received a recovery disk, then point it to C:\Windows\Options\Cabs which should be on all machines that only have the recovery CD and not the full windows CD, otherwise, place the FULL Windows CD in the drive and when it stops loading, close that window, start SFC and follow the above instructions, except point the source to the CD drive. You may have to assist it the first time in pointing to d:\Win98 on the CD (where d: is your CD drive letter.)
