From June 1776 to the close of the war, he served his country and took active part in the battle of Long Island and the retreat to New York, the battles of White Plains, Germantown, Monmouth, Stony Point and the Siege of Yorktown. He was at Valley Forge when Cornwallis surrendered and was in campaign about New York and Philadelphia with General Washington.
Stephen Thompson was a private in Captain Brackett's company, Colonel Wm. Douglas' regiment, Wadsworth brigade, Connecticut: also in Munson's company, Eighth Connecticut regiment, Connecticut line, from formation until its consolidation with the First regiment of Connecticut line in the autumn of 1781. (Revolutionary soldiers of Summit County)
They later settled in Summit Co, OH.
Birth Note: Alternate birth location is reported as Goshen, Litchfield Co., Connecticut. With Christening records also in New Haven, birth location is in all probability in New Haven.

Note: Samuel Thompson deeded land to his son Judah, of New Haven (New Haven Deeds, Vol 12. p. 440), but what became of him afterwards has not been ascertained. In the Second Congretional Church Records the mariage is recorded, 14 Feb 1759, of Judah Thompson to Sarah Norris, who was b 15 mar 1737, the town records a son, Judah, bapt. in 1754
Burial: They lived at Beaver Ponds, now Westville, about two miles from New Haven, CT. He was a Captain of the Militia in New Haven, and was said to be a healthy, active man at the age of 82 years.
He purchased property at Goshen, Conn, where several of his sons settled.
