KALMAR TOWNSHIP FARMER, 74 DIES.

LaFayette Tompkins Spent Entire Life on Same Farm - Rites Friday

Byron, Sept 27 - Lafayette Tompkins, who was born in a log cabin in Kalmar township, died of coronary sclerosis early today in St. Mary's hospital, Rochester, after illness of three years.
Mr. Tompkins, who was taken to the hospital last week, was 74 years old and always resided in Kalmar. He was born in 186 on a farm, part of which latter passed into his possession.
Surviving are his wife, formerly Mertie White, a daughter, Mrs. Myra Fox, of Rochester, three sons, Le Roy and Clarence of Byron and Leon of Dodge Center, and a brother, Sam of Byron.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Byron Methodist church, with Rev. J.W. Mettam officiating.

Mrs. Frank L. Fox, 83, Formerly of City, Dies
Mrs. Frank L. Fox, 83, of New Athens, Ill., and former longtime Rochester resident, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, Ill.

The former Myra Tompkins, she was born Aug. 11, 1893, in Byron and married Mr. Fox on June 7, 1916, in Byron. The couple then moved to Rochester, where he worked in an automobile upholstery until his death in 1931. Mrs. Fox continued to live here until the mid-1950's and then lived with her children residing in various parts of the U.S. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Albert (Frances) Thompson of Rochester, Mrs. Bernard (Maxine) Strassman of New Athens, Mrs. Charles (Jean) Kaufhold of Long Beach, Calif. and Mrs. M.J. (Margery) Mills of Phoenix; 13 grandchildren, and one brother, Clarence Tompkins of Kasson.
The funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday at Homestead United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Merle Dunn officiating.
Friends may call at the church two hours prior to service. Webster Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
