Genealogy Reports for families of Southeastern Kentucky and surrounding areas including: Arnett, Green, Hoskins, Miracle, Thompson and Wilson Families
These maps will help illustrate the evolution of the county formation in Kentucky. Often it appears that our ancestors moved around when, in fact, states and counties changed around them. Many people claimed not to know their state of birth. This resulted from being born in areas under transition such as the formation of the states of Kentucky and Tennessee in the 1790's. For many years during the latter 1700's the area that was to become Tennessee was ceded by the state of North Carolina but not accepted by the Federal Government. The free state of Franklin was formed and existed for seven years, though not recognized by the US government or the state of North Carolina. The area was eventually reclaimed by North Carolina and once again ceded to the Federal Government which then created the state of Tennessee. Hopefully, these maps will help identify or explain why families are found in various and sometimes changing locations.
