Hiram left Kentucky about 1854 as evidenced by the birth of his daughter, Mary in Iowa. The family eventually settled in Missouri. His age in the 1850 Harlan Co cenusus was given as 36 or born around 1814.Information Supplied by Phyllis S. [Campbell] Irby of Wichita, Kansas states that Hiram is listed in the 1860 Mercer County, Missouri census as age 45 which again indicates a birth year of 1814/15. A document in the Department of Interior, Bureau of Pensions lists his age as 41 at date of enlistment on 25 March 1862. This is the source of the 1821 birth year.

Second visit and talk with military personal at Cemetery suggest that if HOSKINS was moved from another location (which it is believed he was) and there was not anyone there to identify him, he may be buried in one of the UNKNOWN graves, of which there are many there. BIRTH: Mary's age in the 1850 Harlan Co census is given as 24. The date listed in Pine Cemetery in Mercer Co., Missouri shows 4 May 1829. The census shows that neither Mary nor husband, Hiram Hoskins can read or write.

Mrs. Hoskins passes away. Mrs. Hoskins an old resident of this city,
passed away at her home last Friday. The funeral services were held at the
residence being conducted by Rev. C.T. Phillips. The remains were interned
at the old Pine Cemetery.
Mrs. Hoskins was 79 years
of age at the time of her death. She was born in Kentucky. She was married
to Hiram Hoskins in that state and came to Mercer Co. 48 years ago. Mr.
Hoskins died in the army. She was the mother of nine children and all

WAS A PIONEER Mrs. Mary Hoskins was the widow of a Union Soldier and
had live in Princeton half a century.
Mrs. Mary Hoskins aged seventy nine years
and a resident of Princeton for 50 years died at her home in the west part of
the city last Friday after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held
at the family home on the following day by Rev. C. T. Phillips after which
the remains were borne to the Pine Cemetery and there laid to rest.
Mary Henderson was born in Knox Co., Ky. May
4, 1828. At the age of 16 years she was married to Hiram Hoskins and to this
union were born nine children, all of whom survive her. About 52 years ago
the family emigrated from Kentucky to Iowa and two years later moved to
Princeton. On March 6, 1862 the husband and father enlisted as a union
soldier in Co. "F" 3rd Reg. Mo. Cav. dying eight months later while in camp
at Marshfield, Mo. He was buried by his comrades at Springfield, Mo. Mrs.
Hoskins united with the Baptist Church prior to her marriage and during all
these years has lived the life of a faithful and consistent Christian. Her
death is mourned by a large circle of friends whose hearts go out in sympathy
to the bereft ones during their sad hour.

Thomas gave Knox County, Kentucky as his place of birth when he enlisted on 24 Jul 1861 in the Civil War. Thomas left Kentucky for Missouri and then on to Bourbon County, Kansas. Martha Knox Hoskins died before the 1860 census and Thomas apparently remarried. His enlistment papers indicated he was married. The last information on him was the 1880 Cherokee Co., KS census.
Thomas married Martha KNOX. Martha was born about 1823. She died in 1857/1859 in , Bourbon County, Kansas.
