My Lambing Family Branch

My Lambing Family Branch

The following is a summary of my research into my line of the Lambing family and it should be noted this is an ongoing research project, so as research goes on some aspects of this page may change.  Also I would like to give thanks to Kathy Marcinek, for her kind help in sharing data with me on my branch of the family.

First Ancestor, Christopher Lambing, Born in, (family tradition has the Alsace Lorraine region of France, about 1720), but I think he is the son of Christopher Lambing and Anna Catherine Ackerman and that he was born May 17, 1733, in Erfweiler, Saarland, Germany (click here to see German record) died 1812, in Nockamixion township Bucks county Pennsylvania, (near the present town of Revere Pa.), married Maria Anna Wanner, May 19, 1766.  At this point I am confined to family tradition since there are no public record to follow, and tradition holds that are ancestor is George Jacob Lambing, son of Christopher Lambing and Maria Wanner, Andrew Arnold Lambing, wrote in his book "George Jacob (name in register) born November 11, 1768: who went by the name of Jacob.  He Married a Miss Phillips, most probably in Adams county, where he had a family, and moved to Allegheny city in the early part of the present century, where he died, and where some of his descendants lived until lately, who call themselves Lampton, because Lambing was "to Dutch".  ( Our family tradition has it, that, this is my anscestor) "  This appears to be true, at least as far as there being a George Jacob Lambing, being my ancestor,(please note Jane Ogle Lampton, in her affidavitt, in Phanuel Lambing pension record stated Phanuel father was Jacob Lampton, however the Pittsburgh baptismal records states his name was George, click here to see Pittsburgh Baptismal record ), however it is unclear if it is the same George Jacob son of Christopher Lambing.  George Jacob Lambing, son of Christopher was probably born in Bucks county Pa., and the Gosshenhoppen Registers, states that both where baptized in Magunshi, (which today is known as Macungie, in Lehigh county Pa., and is between Quakertown and Allentown Pa.).

Please note although the  Conewago records and the Pittsburgh records don't agree as to dates, the source of the  Conewago

Jacob Lambing, is mention is in the Conewago Register Adams county Pa,, as having the following children to his wife Catharine Phillips (perhaps Catherine Moore), John, born March 16, 1817, Elisabeth, born February 19, 1819, Frederick, born November 25, 1820, (in the 1830 Census record for Armstrong county Pa., Jacob Lambing is listed with 8 children, including the ones mention above).  Also Known to be children of Jacob and Catharine Lambing, are, Barbara Lambing, born about 1826,  Married William Leo about 1851.  Rebecca Lambing, born about 1828, Phaniel Lambing, who like all of them  went by the name Lampton, and resided later in life, around the area of Warren Ohio. Phaniel Lambing was born in 1832,  died April 27, 1920 and married a Jane Ogle, (Married November 26, 1865, click here to see record) who was born in Pa. in the year of 1831.  Phaniel and Jane Lambing (Lampton) had the following Children,William Jacob, born, September 5, 1866, Mary Isabell, born March 18, 1869, Ann, born 1870 in Pa., Katie born 1872 in Ohio, Mary born  1875 in Ohio, Nancy born 1877 in Ohio, Lawrence Joseph, born September 26, 1880, in Lowellville Ohio, Click here to view one document from Phanuel pension with information on his Children Birth and his marriage died November 10, 1965.  Also thought to be a son of Jacob and Catharine Phillips Lambing, is Francis (Frank) Lambing, born in August 1833, and this is my great grandfather. ( click here to see Marriage and Baptismal records of the Lampton Lamping, Lambing family in Pittsburgh ).

New information .  Phanuel Lambing Served in the Civil Was in the Illinose 21st, under the named Frank Lampton, when he was buried it was under the name Channel Lambing (a mistake for Phanuel Lambing), this cause a problem for his widow Jane (Ogle) Lambing, she had to proved he was Frank Lampton and explain why he served under a different name and was burried under a different name, so that she could recieve his pension.  To recieved Phanuel Lambing Pension she had to give several depositions, which where included in his pension and which I am now posting on this web site.   Click here to see select pages from  Phanuel Lambing,  pension file .   Also because of this research we now have baptismal records from Pittsburgh and  a sumary of the census records.   To View the Baptismal records click here.   To view the census summary click here .

Francis Lambing, married Mary Ann Gibbs, born May 2, 1839(click here to see baptismal record) and they had one child, Albert Milton Lambing, born August 22, 1865, in Kittanning, Armstrong county Pa.,(click here to see Albert Lambing's Baptismal record) and Albert Milton Lambing died June 8, 1935, in Etna, Allegheny county.   Francis Lambing died June 30, 1908 in Enta, Allegheny county Pa., and was listed as a widow.   It should be noted that Francis Lambing lived with his son Albert Milton Lambing in Etna Pa., Allegheny county, before his death, and that the Children of Albert Milton Lambing, (mention below) knew Francis Lambing.  All of the children of Albert Milton Lambing, with the exception of May, told a story of when a brother of Francis Lambing, paid then a visit while they lived in Etna Pa., this brother was nickname Fang Fang Lambing (Phanuel) who came from Ohio, served in the civil war in the Illinois 21st under the name Frank Lampton.  Also that he change his name to Lampton, which the children were amaze to hear, and that this was the talk of the children for many days.  Should also be noted, that each of my Aunts and Uncle, told the same story individually.
