You may be wondering why another Crompton website ?. A short while ago, I foolishly offered to sort out a friends Crompton family tree, thinking it only a few hours work . Oh how wrong I was !. I soon  had the feeling that I was putting together a jig saw puzzle with most of the bits missing and the wrong picture to guide me !.  So I decided to start a Crompton data base and transcribe available data into it. At the moment it has the 1881 extractions but not much more. However for any just starting their tree it will be of increasing help to them as the contents of the database grows.

             I think I ought to say right from the start that this is not a commercial exercise and to prove it I have created this website where all the data will be published ... where any researcher can find it. The basic site is capable of storing and presenting about 500,000 Crompton records. So far it only contains 532 !. So there is a long way to go. How far it goes depends upon people like yourself . I have no Crompton connections at all and so I only have a small amount of data on them.  Collectively, all of the Crompton researchers have a lot of data stored away in dark corners, where it helps no one. My suggestion is that we find every single reference to the Crompton family and present it on this website.  Every register entry, every census entry, every record that has ever been made of the Lancashire Crompton family.

            People visit  genealogical websites because they want something .... data !.   Now when one starts a genealogical website it is very much like an empty pot. No one can take anything out of it unless someone else has first put something in !.  Now if you are searching the data base and do not find what you are looking for, then it will simply be because someone else has not donated it. The missing link that they are searching for is the bit of data that you have, but did not share. 

            Beginners have very little to share.  So what is in it for the more advanced researcher ?. Well you get yet one more chance to post your interests to the data hungry masses. Also you get credited for every single item donated and your email address added to the entry so that connecting researchers can contact you direct. In addition, we can introduce you to other researchers who we can see have a possible connection to your search.
