Article from the Sioux County Herald
Orange City, Iowa
March 8, 1899

In discussing the outcome of the Blood case the Boyden Reporter thinks the judge did only a part of his duty, using the following language: "This deed has ever appealed to us as a cool, deliberate murder. If, however, the creature is really insane to such a degree that she is 'mentally irresponsible' she ought not to have been let loose to repeat the act on some one else. If this is the case she ought to have been sent to an asylum by the order of the same court that dismissed the case. We may not have as much sympathy for Mrs. Blood as some do. We have sympathy for her but non for her crime. We believe in protecting life even at the expense of the irresponsible. Keep crazy people and pistols apart."
