Who Got the News?
Nearly one week after the conclusion of the Blood trial an esteemed contemporary over at Alton pats its own back because it published a full report of that celebrated trial. So it did, a very good report, a good one considering that the trial took place in Orange City, and our e.c. is published in Alton. But the usually alert Democrat was slow, just a trifle slow and long before its weekly appearance, Sioux county people had read THE HERALD's extra giving the news and all the news. Just to determine what the county papers think as to who printed the news the following will show:
- The Hull Index printed two columns of THE HERALD's report, giving proper credit therefor.
- The Maurice Review copied and credited to THE HERALD its report of the case.
- The Ireton Clipper published nearly three columns about the case which was stolen word for word from THE HERALD, no credit being given.
- The Sioux Center Free Press copied from THE HERALD, with due credit, about one and one-half columns.
- The Hawarden Independent republished THE HERALD's report almost verbatim, giving this paper proper credit.
- The Volksfriend, Orange City, says: "THE SIOUX COUNTY HERALD published an extra number Saturday evening in order to be the first to give the news of the Blood case. This enterprise on the part of Mr. Bowers merits the thanks of the public."
- The Sioux Center Nieuwsblad copied two columns of THE HERALD's report and gave due credit.
Now who printed the news?
