DEATH ENDS LONG ILLNESS
Gustve Alvine Roos, who lived at the home of his father, Rudolph Roos,
six miles from this city, passed away on Friday last at the age of 24 years,
5 months and 18 days.
The deceased had been in poor health for the past four years, being
affected by tuberculosis during that time. The direct cause of his death was
rupture of the stomach.

Roy Roblin left for Ashton on Wednesday, after visiting with old friends
here for the past few days.
Annual election of officers of Worthington Homestead No. 22 Brotherhood
of American Yeomen, was held in the Eagle hall, Monday evening, December
4th. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: Foreman, L.W.
Abbott; Master of Ceremonies, W.W. Barkelew; Correspondent, Mattie M.
Hastings; Master of Accounts, E.C. Pannell; Chaplain, Mrs. Oscar Blood.
After the election a social time was enjoyed by all present. Installation
will be held Jan. 15th, 1912.

Mrs. Wm. Ferguson returned Friday from Brewster, where she visited
briefly with her daughter, Mrs. P.J. Silver.
Mrs. C.O. Ford went to Sioux Falls on Saturday last, where she visited
for a few days with her sister, Mrs. R. Varnes.
Mrs. G.W. Dryden returned to her home in Windom, Friday, after spending
Thanksgiving in this city with her son, R. Dryden.
Misses Alice and Florence Ford went to Sioux Falls last Wednesday where
they visited for several days at the home of their aunt, Mrs. R. Varnes.
John Miller left Sunday for Fairmont where he has employment, after a
visit of several days in this city with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eilert
Miller.
Mrs. Arkell, of Iona, was in the city the latter part of last week,
visiting her sons, John and Wendell. The latter young man was recently
operated at the Worthington hospital.
R.W. Oakes left Sunday for Welcome. Mr. Oakes, who is a brother-in-law of
Dr. J.N. Gould the well-known veterinary surgeon, is filling the position of
superintendent of schools at Welcome.
Miss Esther Noren arrived here the latter part of last week for a visit
of a few days with her sister, Hildur, and brother, Herbert. She has been
residing at Kinderly, Sask., Canada, with her brothers, Richard and Olaf.
Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Morton, who were called to Chicago a few weeks ago on
account of the serious illness and pending operation of Mr. Morton's brother
there, returned their home Sunday. Mr. Morton reports the condition of his
brother as being much improved.
Mrs. G.F. Martin, of Spencer, Ia., spent Thanksgiving at the home of her
father, Thos. Bristow, of this city, returning home on Saturday last.
Chas. Wahl, of Iowa, visited at the home of his brother, Gust Wahl over
Thanksgiving. Mr. Wahl left Saturday for Minneapolis where he will remain
for a few days, before starting for Sweden for a several months' visit.

Henry Martin left on Thursday morning for his home at Charter Oak, Iowa,
after visiting for a few days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vogt.
Jonothan Gordon, an aged resident of Brewster, is seriously ill at his
home there. Mr. Gordon was stricken with paralysis a few days ago.
S.R. Revell left for his home in Denver, Colo., on Wednesday last. Mr.
Revell has been visiting at the home of his uncle, Mr. J.R. Smith, for the
past ten days.
Miss Hazel Swartwood, who for some time past has made her home with her
sister, Mrs. J. Donovan, in this city, left on Tuesday last for Denver,
Colo., where her mother resides.
G. Lundstrom and Erick Haglund left for Minneapolis Wednesday. After a
short stay in that city, the young men will leave for Seattle, Wash., where
they will make their homes in the future.

Clerk of Court Martin issued a marriage license this week to Jake Larson
and Miss Lois Clabaugh, both of Dickinson county, Iowa.
The Globe has learned of the marriage of Mr. Claud E. Comer, formerly of
Worthington and Round Lake, but at present residing in Dagmen, Mont., to
Miss Laura Jorgenson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jorgen Jorgenson, on November
25, at Dagmen, Montana.
A happy wedding couple left on the afternoon train on Tuesday last for
Bigelow. The young lady, formerly Miss Clara Haack, was a resident of
Bigelow until about four months ago, when she came to Worthington. Since
then she has been employed in Frank's cafe, in this city. The lucky young
man, Mr. Chester Kelser, is also a resident of Bigelow. The young people
will make their home in Bigelow for the future.
Mrs. J. Richardson left for her home in Lismore on Monday, after a short
visit with her daughter, Mrs. E.G. Pierce, of this city.
Richard Eisle, who has been visiting for the past few days at the home of
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Eisle, of this city, left Tuesday last for
his home in Rock Rapids.
Mrs. R.P. Burton left on Monday last for his home in Adrian. Mr. Burton
is proprietor of the Slade hotel at that place. His stay here, which was
briefk was in the interests of the hotel.
Mrs. A.T. Davis left for Minneapolis on Tuesday last after a stay of
several weeks in this city. Mrs. Davis came here to attend the funeral of
her father, W.M. Soles, whose death occurred a few weeks ago.
J.N. Clark, who has been visiting for the past few days with his sister,
Mrs. Cutler, of this city, left on Monday of this week for Lake Preston,
S.D., where he will visit with his daughter, Mrs. Frank Elbert.
Mrs. Ray Bristow left on Wednesday last for Merril, Ia. Mrs. Bristow will
visit with her parents at that place.
A license to wed was issued on Tuesday last to James Francis Maher, and
Miss Gladys Currier, both of Nobles county.
Mrs. Carl Leistico left on Wednesday last for Dundee, for a few days
visit with her daughter, Mrs. A.R. Schmidt, of that place.
Miss Grace Brown returned to this city on Wednesday last. Miss Brown had
been visiting with her sister, Mrs. J.E. Smith, at Bingham Lake.
Miss Francis Callahan left Tuesday for St. Charles, after a short but
pleasant visit at the home of her cousin, Miss Jennie Torrance, of this
city.
Miss Della Price spent a few hours visiting friends in this city on
Wednesday last. Mrs. Price resides in Denver, Colo., and was on her way to
visit her brother who lives in Sioux Falls.
Adolph Nelson left on Tuesday last for Cherokee, Iowa. Mr. Nelson came to
Worthington a few days ago and while here purchaseed a farm about eight
miles from this city, from G.W. Patterson.
Miss Mabel Hogan, of this city, was married on Sunday, Dec. 3, to Mr. Dan
O'Connell, of Chicago. The wedding took place in this city. Miss Hogan is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Hogan of this city, and resided at the
h0ome of her parents until about a year ago, when she went to New York. Mr.
O'Connell, the groom, is engaged in the hotel business in Chicago. The young
couple will make their home in Chicago.
C.E. Sprouse left on Monday for Clark, S.D. After a few days visit there,
he will leave for his home in Cameron, Mo. Mr. Sprouse was a former resident
of this township, but moved to Missouri about ten years ago. Since that time
he has been engaged in farming.

Mrs. Eugene Smith left on Tuesday for Slayton to visit with friends and
acquaintances for a few days.
Mrs. W.H. Jaegerm, of LeSueur Center, is visiting at the home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.P. Darling.
Mrs. H. Olson arrived from Brewster, Tuesday. Mrs. Olson will visit at
the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. Erickson.
Victor Johnson after a short visit at the home of his father-in-law, Mr.
J.H. Peterson, returned to his home in Perham, Minn., on Tuesday of this
week.
Ross Nelson, who recently purchased a hotel in Slayton, announces that he
will move his family there on the 20th of this month, on which date he will
take possession of the new building.
Mrs. T.O. Opsata arrived on Tuesday last from Luverne. Mrs. Opsata will
visit at the home of Mrs. Wilson and her sister in this city, before
returning to her home in Webster City, Iowa.
Mrs. J.A. Jensen visited at the home of her sister, Mrs. Roy Anderson, on
Monday of this week. Mrs. Jensen was returning from a five weeks' visit to
the coast, and took occasion to visit her sister while here. She left on
Monday for her home in Sioux Falls.
Married -- At the M.E. parsonage last Monday, Bruce culver to Miss
Blanche Deitrich, both of Sibley, Ia.
Clerk of Court Martin issued a license to wed on December 11th, to Mr.
Bruce Culbert and Miss Dietrick, both of Osceola county, Iowa.
Mrs. G. Gable left on Monday of this week for Rushmore. Mrs. Gable will
visit with her daughter in that city before returning to her home here.
Miss Alice Ford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Ford, was slightly
indisposed for a few days the past week. From last accounts Miss Ford is
about well again.
Miss Mary B. Hudson, whose home is near Round Lake, Minn., was adjudged
insane in the probate court of this city, Thursday. The unfortunate lady was
removed to St. Peter, where she will remain under the care of the physicians
at the state hospital.

home of her son, Alex Bonin, for a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Benjamin left this city on Friday for their home in

daughter, Mrs. G.W. Kinsman, for the past two months.
C. Goodrich, of Currie, is spending a few days at his home in this city,
preparing for a trip to the coast.
Miss Metta Ruhberg left on Saturday for a Sunday visit at the home of her
parents at Storden. She returned to this city on Monday.
Mrs. W.J. Corbett arrived home on Monday. Mrs. Corbett had been visiting
at the home of her sister in Waterloo, Iowa, and reported a very pleasant
time.
Frank Richardson left for his home in Tracy, Minn., on Monday, after a
short but pleasant visit at the home of his father, Mr. H.B. Richardson, of
this city.
Mr. and Mrs. John Richardson arrived in this city from their home in
LeMars, Iowa, on Monday of this week. They will visit for a few days at the
home of their son-in-law, Mr. E.E. Pierce.
A.D. Fritz, who has been visiting at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. John
Seline, of this city, left Monday for his home in Ocheyedan, Iowa.

DIVORCE GRANTED. Mrs. Alfreida Voss Secures Decree in the District
Court on Tuesday.
Mrs. Alfrieda Voss was granted degree of divorce from her husband, Thomas
Voss, by Judge L.S. Nelson, in the district court of this city on Tuesday,
December 19th. Mr. and Mrs. Voss were married in Bloom township, May 17,
1910. In her application for divorce Mrs. Voss charged her husband with
cruel and inhuman treatment. Attorney S.S. Smith appeared as counsel for the
plaintiff. In addition to obtaining the degree, Mrs. Voss was given the
custody of her child.
JONATHAN GORDON DIES. A Former Worthington Resident Passes Away at
Home of Sister
Johnathan Gordon, a former resident of Worthington, and a pioneer of this
state, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Thos. Sibley, near Bigelow on
Sunday morning, at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 12 days.
Mr. Gordon was one of the best known pioneer settlers of this county. He
was born in Lyman, Grafton county, New Hampshire, March 4, 1823, and was a
son of natives of the same state. In lyman he lived until twenty-five years
of age, and then in 1848 he moved to Rockaon [Roscoe??], Winnebago county,
Ill. Three years later he located in Allamakee county, Iowa, and in 1854
moved to Olmstead county, Minn., his family becoming the third in that
county. He arrived in Nobles county May 28, 1871, and homesteaded in Hersey
township. In that precinct and in Worthington. Mr. Gordon has lived for many
years.
While a resident of this city Mr. Gordon was prominent in politics, and
at different times held many important offices in Nobles county. In 1878 he
received the appointment of county commissioner, which office he held for
one term. He also served as justice of peace for eight years.
Mr. Gordon was an old soldier, having served with distinction during the
civil war.
In July of last year Mr. Gordon moved to Bigelow, and from that time
until his death made his home with his sister there.
Mr. Gordon left a family of seven children, five boys and two girls.
Charles A. Gordon, of this city, being one of the surviving sons.

The Misses Grake Reinken and Freda Rosenberg left for Rushmore on
Wednesday to attend the wedding of their uncle, Mr. Julius Howe, of that
village.
T.H. Dryden, after a very pleasant visit at the home of his son, R.
Dryden, of this city, lefty on Tuesday morning for his home in Windom. E.E.
Dryden, a brother of T.N., and also visiting at the home of R. Dryden, left
on the same train for his home in Red Wing, Minn.
John H. Graham visited at the home of his son, C.A. Graham, of this city,
on Wednesday. Mr. Graham was enroute from Sherburne, Minn., to his home in
Colorado.
John Stonebraker left on Wednesday for his home in Roberts, Ill. Mr.
Stonebraker had visited for a few days at the home of his uncle, Mr. L.S.
Kenney, who resides three miles east of this city.
Mrs. Jessie Dunn visited with friends in this city on Wednesday of this
week. Mrs. Dunn was enroute from Wilmont, Minn., where she had visited at
the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Briggs, to her home in
Minneapolis.
Robert Voigt arrived from Sioux City on Tuesday. Mr. Voigt will make his
home here in the future.
Miss Alive [Alice?] DeVaney returned to her home in Dell Rapids, S.D., on
Thursday evening. Miss DeVaney has been visiting at the home of her
brothers, William and James, of this city, for the past two weeks.
Wesley Rippberger of White Oak, S.D., has made final proof on his claim,
and since Thanksgiving has been visiting friends and relatives here. He has
now accepted a position in A.R. Wicks' harness factory at Bigelow, Minn.
Mrs. C.H. Seely, of Westbrook, Minn., visited at the home of her son for
the past four or five days.
Mrs. E.A. Carrier, accompanied by her little girl, left on Tuesday for
St. Charles, Minn., Mrs. Carrier's husband, who was at one time owner of a
barber shop here now owned by C.J. Vernon, on 3rd avenue, is at present
located in that city, having recently purchased a pool hall there. Mr. and
Mrs. Carrier will make their future home there.
Frank Puerner and Miss Hilda Noren were married at 8 o'clock p.m.,
Saturday, at the Swedish Lutheran church of this city, Rev. Shipp
officiating. Mr. Puerner is passenger brakeman on the Omaha railroad and
Miss Noren is one of Worthington's best known young ladies. The happy couple
left after the ceremony for St. Paul, in which city they will make their
future home.
E. Miller and wife returned to their home in this city on Wednesday,
after a short and pleasant visit at the home of their uncle, in Omaha,
Nebraska.
Marguerite Bassett, who has been visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs.
R.E. Smith, left for her home in Rushmore on Monday.
J.C. Boddy took the afternoon train on Monday for Rushmore. Mr. Boddy
will visit at the home of his son, Mr. Chas. Boddy, while in that village.
Mrs. W.H. Prideaux, who has been visiting at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. J.H. James, of this city, left on Monday for her home in Adrian.
W.E. Blood, of Sioux City, Ia., arrived in Worthington on Monday. Mr.
Blood will visit over the holidays at the home of his brother, Oscar Blood.
Ben Sobol, one of the proprietors of the Bargain store, received the sad
news the first of the week, of the4 death of his mother, who resides at
Malata.
Mrs. R. Prideaux, accompanied by her granddaughter, Miss Barry, of
Pierre, S. Dak., left on Monday afternoon for Rushmore. They will visit at
the home of Mrs. Prideaux's son while in that village.
On Saturday, Dec. 16th, Clerk of Court Martin issued a license to wed to
Mr. F.W. Puerner, of Hennepin county, and Miss Hilda Noren of Nobles county,
Mr. Julius H. Howe and Miss Ida Belinda Erlandson, both of Nobles county,
also secured license to wed on Monday, Dec. 18th.
Mr. and Mrs. A.N. Wetherall left for Callaway, Nebraska, on Wednesday.
They will visit at the home of their daughter in that place until after the
New Year. Before returning to their home, Mr. and Mrs. Wetherall may visit
Mexico.

Mrs. F.C. Burkhart, of Omaha, was the guest of Mrs. J.H. James for a few
hours on Tuesday.
Mrs. M. Lawrence, after a visit of several weeks at Slayton, Minn.,
returned to her home in this city on Saturday last.
Frank Brown returned on Tuesday, where he had been visiting with friends
and relatives for the past few days.
John Stonebraker will spend a few days at the home of Mr. Lee Kenny. He
arrived from his home in Roberts, Ill., on Tuesday.
Junita Parks terminated a pleasant visit at the home of Jas. Montgomery
on Tuesday. He left for his home in Chicago the same day.
Mr. and Mrs. Erpelding left with their family on Tuesday for Wilmont.
They will visit with friends there during the Christmas holidays.
Miss Nellie Burroughs, who for the past few days has been visiting with
friends and relatives in this city, left for her home in Sibley on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bristow will spend Christmas in this city visiting
friends and relatives. They arrived on Tuesday from their home in Merrill,
Iowa.
Misses Annie McGee and Mary Fajen visited at the home of Mr. P.J. Martin
during the past week. They returned to their home in Brewster on Friday.
Mrs. W.J. Elick returned to her home in Guernsey, Ia., on Tuesday. While
in this city Mrs. Elick visited at the home of Mrs. James Chermak and her
sister, who resides here.
Albert Gray spent Tuesday in this city attending to business matters. He
left on the afternoon train for his home in Bigelow. He was accompanied by
his brother, John Gray, also of Bigelow.
B.R. Holley left with his wife and family for Minneapolis on Tuesday. Mr.
Holley has resided in this city for the past two years. He leaves to accept
a position on the N.P. railroad at Minneapolis.
Married -- At the residence of J.J. Schechter, in Elk township, on
Sunday, Dec. 20, the Rev. Charles Hillary officiating, Arthur G. Boles of
Marshall county, Iowa, to Miss Esther Nicholson. The groom is one of
Marshall county's prosperous farmers and the bride is a stepdaughter of Mr.
Schechter. The happy couple left Tuesday morning for their home in Marshall
county over the Rock Island.

Miss Ella Roos, whose home is about six miles from this city, left on
Saturday for Luverne. While there Miss Roos will visit at the home of her
uncle, Robert Larson.
Miss Maude Ruhberg, of Storden, arrived in this city on Saturday. Miss
Ruhberg will visit for a few days with her sister, Miss Metta, who is
employed as bookkeeper and stenographer at the Globe office.

POPULAR TEACHER WEDDED Becomes Bride of Roy M. Jordison On Wednesday,
December 27th.
A very pretty wedding was celebrated at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.F.
Dring, four miles east of this city, on Wednesday last, when their daughter,
Miss Golda Mae Dring, became the bride of Mr. Roy M. Jordison. The marriage
ceremony was performed at the Methodist Episcopal church in this city by the
Rev. Frederick Frederickson. Following the ceremony the young couple were
driven to the home of the bride's parents where a wedding dinner was served.
C.E. Dring, brother of the bride, Altha Jordison, sister of the groom, Mr.
and Mrs. L.S. Kenney, and the bride's intimate friend Miss Alice Sprouse,
were the only guests present.
Miss Golda Dring was one of the best known and popular young ladies in
this locality. For some time past she has been teaching school in the
district in which she resides and it is understood she will serve out the
present term before resigning her position.
The groom is also well known in this locality and has many friends in
this and surrounding counties.
The happy couple left on Wednesday for Wisconsin, in which state they
will visit for a couple of weeks before returning to Worthington, where they
will make their future home. The Globe extends to Mr. and Mrs. Jordison
hearty congratulations and best wishes for many long years of a happy wedded
life.
MRS L.J. LARSON DIES SUDDENLY
Pioneer Resident of Worthington Passes
Away at Home Tuesday Noon. RESIDED HERE TWENTY YEARS
Though in Poor Health
for Some Time Past Death Was Unexpected.
Mrs. Bengta Larson died at the home in this city, at Tuesday noon.
The cause of her death was heart failure.
The deceased, Mrs. Larson, was one of the oldest of the pioneer residents
of this city, having resided in Worthington for the past twenty years. At
the time of her death she was 67 years, 3 months and 13 days of age.
Mrs. Larson was born in Sweden. While still a young woman she moved to
this country with her husband and located in Worthington. Her husband was a
shoemaker by trade and for many years conducted a shoe repairing
establishment in this city. Of late years, though living a more retired and
less active life, he still continued to work at his trade at his home on
Main St.
The death of Mrs. Larson was sudden and unexpected. Though not in robust
health for the past few years, a marked improvement was noticed in her
condition of late and at the time of her death she appeared in excellent
health and spirits. She was stricken while preparing the noonday meal and
died a few minutes later. The family consisted of seven girls and one boy,
all of whom survive, and are as follows: Mrs. Ole Swanson and Mrs. P.G.
Johnson, both of Worthington, Mrs. Alf Mohlborg, residing four miles south
of this city, Mrs. Ed Olson, two miles south of Worthington, Mrs. Nels
Anderson, of Kenneth, Mrs. Olaf Anderson, of Kandigohi, Mrs. H.O. Odin, of
Estherville, and Mr. John Lawson, student of G.A. College, at St. Peter,
Minn.
The funeral services will be held at the Swedish Lutheran church on
Sunday, December 31st.
Dr. and Mrs. W.J. Dodge, formerly of this city, but at present of St.
Paul, are visiting at the home of the Doctor's sister, Mrs. Harry Hobson.

Mrs. J.E. Long, accompany by her children, left for Adrian on Tuesday.
While in that village they will visit at the home of D.S. Long.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Duster, former residents of Worthington, spent
Christmas visiting at the home of Mrs. Duster's mother, Mrs. P. O'Connor.
Mrs. E.E. Ober, accompany by her son and daughter, left on Saturday for
Tolono, Ill., to spend Christmas at the home of Mrs. Ober's sister.
Mrs. Wm. Barnard arrived from Little Rock on Saturday. Mrs. Barnard was
the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I.N. Nelson over Christmas.
Mr. and Mrs. John Ryan and family arrived from Minneapolis on Saturday to
spend Christmas at the home of the former's mother, Mrs. Mary Ryan.
Mrs. C.F. Lufft left during the past week for Mullenville, Kansas, at
which place she will visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Veeder, for a
month or more.
Mr. and Mrs. Nels Anderson, accompanied by their family, were the guests
of their father-in-law, Mr. L.J. Larson, over Christmas. They left for their
home in Kenneth on Tuesday.
