Probate Court.
The following business has been transacted in vacation:
Letters of administration granted Hannah Farrar on estate of David Farrar,
deceased.
Estate of Susan Sims, deceased; will, made January 30, 1891, O J Robards and
W J Garrett attesting witnesses, probated. All the real estate is bequeathed to
Cynthia Headlee, who is also appointed executrix.
Last will and testament of Maggie N Welsh admitted to probate. The child gets
$1 and the husband the remainder of the property. The instrument is dated April
7, 1891, and attested by Mrs. Margaret Newman and W E Sheffield.
Estate of Dr. John Hyde, deceased; last will presented by Amelia E Hyde and
testimony of J H Wiley and S E Baer taken; certificate issued and letters
granted to Amelia E Hyde without bond. The will is dated February 13, 1888, and
attested by J H Wiley and S E Baer. The property is disposed of as follows:
First -- All just debts and funeral expenses must be paid.
Second -- To his daughter, Mrs. Nellie E Sperry, he gives $100.
Third -- To his wife, Amelia E Hyde, all the balance of the property - real,
personal or mixed - to remain her property absolutely.
Fourth -- He names, and appoints his wife executrix without requiring bond.
Died.
The infant of Mr. and Mrs. McKellops, which died at Ash Grove the 30th ult.,
was taken to St. Louis for burial.
J.C. Howard, familiarly known as "Uncle Can," died at Ash Grove Tuesday, June
30th, after a brief illness from the effects of erysipelas. Deceased was a
native of Tennessee, about 55 or 60 years of age and has resided in Greene
county since 1856 or 1857. He was a deputy under C.B. Owen, ex-sheriff. In his
death, Boone township loses one of its best citizens.
Lights and Shadows.
Engineer Bates and corps are making their final locations for sewerage.
The A.O.U.W. lodges of this city contemplate an excursion to Lebanon early in
August.
The calaboose was empty yesterday for the first time in several weeks, Lillie
Price being the last to go out.
Charlie White, colored, near Ash Grove, finished planting twenty-seven acres
of field corn in the Sac valley on the 6th of last April and it is now tasseling.
Capt. Frank Merigold has been selected guardian and curator of the person and
estate of Robert Lee Campbell, and Judge Lincoln required him to give bond in
sum of $25,000.
Charles Russell, colored, charged with disturbing the peace of an assembly at
Music Hall during a festival, pleaded guilty before Judge Fath this morning and
paid his fine, $1 and costs. Al Morton was fined for a similar offense at 3
o'clock this afternoon.
Two marriage licenses were issued this morning - Henry Neal, aged 22, and
Miss Hetta F. Emerson, 15 years old, both of Station A, Springfield; Daniel Hait,
of Spring Garden, Miller county, Mo., and Miss Jessie E. Hait, Springfield. This
couple are said to be third cousins. Judge Fath married them.

MRS. J.C. CRAVENS DEAD.
Brief Sketch of Her Life by a Friend
Typhoid the Cause.
Mrs. J.C. Cravens died at her home on Market street last night from typhoid
fever. The following by a friend was written this morning:
The announcement of the death of this estimable lady will send a thrill of
genuine sorrow to the hearts of all who knew her. She was born in Arkansas, near
Imboden, Lawrence county, and in her early youth moved to Batesville, where she
lived until her marriage with Maj. J.C. Cravens in August, 1864. Her father,
Hon. Robert Smith, was in his time one of the most prominent citizens of
ARkansas. He was a member of the convention which framed the first constitution
of that state. Mrs. Cravens was a noble type of a Southern woman. The better she
was known by her friends the better she was loved. Her characteristics were
loyalty to her friends, hatred of shams, love and devotion to her family, her
church, and the cause of Christ generally. Married when the entire country was
in the throes of civil war, and to one who took a prominent part in it, she
shaped and moulded his destiny with a loving hand and reared a family whose
brightest heritage from this on will be the memory of her exalted character.
Her departure has left an aching boid in the wide circle of her friends which
can never be filled till they meet her in the "Life Eternal." She met the "Great
Enemy" calmly. He had no terrors for her, and quietly, almost painlessly, she
passed away. Her only regret was the separation from her loved ones. The future
has no fears.

The funeral will take place from the family residence, No. 497 Market street,
tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon at 3 o'clock.
Died.
Mrs. Lucy A. Timmons, residing near Republic, died last night, aged about 60
years, and will be buried tomorrow afternoon at Lindsey Chapel.
The infant daughter of H.H. Tatum was buried in Hazlewood Cemetery this
afternoon.

Rev. Beggs Transferred.
The many friends of Rev. F.S. Beggs, presiding elder of the M.E. Church,
Springfield district, has been transferred by Bishop Vincent to Evanston,
Wyoming, but the church at Central City, Col., has asked for him and the
probabilities are that he will be sent to that point, which he prefers, as it is
closer to Denver University, which his daughter, Miss Gertie, expects to enter
shortly. Rev. O.B. Jones, pastor of the Benton Avenue, will succeed Rev. Beggs
as presiding elder and Rev. W.M. Bewley, of the Colorado conference, takes Mr.
Jones' place. Mr. Beggs is arranging his affairs and expects to leave for the
Centennial state as soon as practicable. The Leader is sorry to lose such an
able divine and congratulates the people who will have the benefit of his
services.
Criminal Court Docket.
W.W. Donham, circuit clerk, has completed the docket for July term of the
Greene County Criminal Court, which convenes Monday, 27th inst. At present there
are 123 cases, but it is probable the number will reach 250 before the term
expires. The most important case is that of state vs M.C. Hayes, murder in the
first degree. Another interesting and sensational trial will be that of Father
S.J. Hynes vs Father Hogan, criminal libel, on change of venue from Lawrence
county. There are over twenty felony cases and this term of court will no doubt
be spicy.
