Julie wrote: 1909 they moved to 67 Thomas St Ashfield and John lived there until he died in 1927. When my grandparents lived there, it was painted white & the gardens were beautiful. It was such a big house that my grandparents eventually turned it into 2 flats. They lived in the back Flat which had a big yard, garage & courtyard (4 Walter St). The front flat was rented out (67 Thomas St). My mum, Allan & Peter each have a coffee table with a marble top. The marble was cut from the original kitchen bench at 67 Thomas St.

The family felt that Johnfather had been very controlling of his daughters & never allowed any of them to marry. Only one, Maria, was brave enough to disobey her father & eloped.

For most of my childhood, my grandparents lived in the house in Croydon(67 Thomas St.) that the Aunts had lived in. My Great Great Grandfather bought that house in 1909

and lived there with his daughters until he died in 1927.

I loved that house & some of my happiest memories were made there. I also lived there with my grandparents for 2 years when I was in my teens.
