Alice died on the 16th November 1933, aged 54 years old (see below for commentary on age anomaly).  At the time of her death she appears to have been an asylum resident at Severalls in Colchester.  We only discovered this when my Nan died recently as we found details of her funeral expenses in Nan's papers.  I don't have a copy of her death certificate but from what my Father remembers there was talk that she never got over the death of her daughter, Amy.  Even in 1933 I don't think they were particularly enlightened about mental illness and breakdowns.

She was age 27 according to the marriage certificate (which doesn't quite tie with her date of birth). John Godfrey was only 23, so maybe a couple of years was conveniently lost to narrow the age gap between the two of them!!!

1905

Amy Lilian Godfrey was born  in 1906 and died in 1931 aged 25 years old.  I plan to request a copy of her birth and death certificate shortly.

Elsie May Godfrey was born when they lived at 7 Cromer Rd Romford on the 30th May 1914 and died on the 28th January 2006.  She married Edward Ernest Bibby on the 2nd June 1934 and they had 3 children, 5 grandchildren (of which I am one) and now have 7 great grandchildren.  Sadly Nan only got to see 4 of her 7 great grandchildren.  My eldest was born 24 hours after she died in the same hospital and my niece and my second child were born late 2006 and in August last year respectively.  Unfortunately when Nan died so much of the verbal history of the family died with her.  I wish I had started my research when she was alive. (Ah Julie as they say join the club - I remember being bored by the old family stories BUT why didn't I take notes)
