Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Stephenson, 80, who died in a hospital Saturday of a heart ailment, will be held 11:30 A.M., Tuesday in the Holman and Lutz chapel.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Paul Wright of the First Presbyterian church, of which Mrs. Stephenson was a member. Interment will be in the family plot at Riverview cemetery.

Mrs. Stephenson was born August 3, 1865, in St. Johns, New Brunswick, but had lived in Portland for 56 years.

Surviving are two children, Mrs. Gertrude S. Steigerwald and Clarence B. Stephenson, both of Portland; five granddaughters and three great-grandsons.

Mrs. Stephenson was the widow of George C. Stephenson.

Miss Jean Martin, well known in local society circles, died Tuesday evening at the home of her mother, Mrs. J. A. Martin., 215 North Twenty-fourth street, from an abcess of the brain after a brief illness. She was 22 years old, graduate of Portland Academy and was a student at Miss McClintock's school in Boston.

John A. Martin, former member of the City Council and a resident of Portland for 30 years past, died at an early hour yesterday morning at his home, 215 North Twenty-fourth street. Death was brought on by a general breaking down of Mr. Martin's health.

Mr. Martin came to Portland 30 years ago and engaged in the milling business. Of late years he has conducted the J. A. Martin Milling Company, retiring from active management two years ago. He was born at Prince Edward Island 55 years ago. Mr. Martin was a member of the City Council at the time W. A. Story was selected as Mayor of the city. He has always taken a lively interest in politics during his long residence in Portland. He survived by a widow and one daughter Jean. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.

Marie Stephenson, 91, died Thursday in a hospital. She resided at 1880 S.W. Glen View Ave.

A private graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Riverview Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, David H. of Portland and Bruce E. of Saratoga, Calif.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances be contributed to St. Vincent Hospital.

Private funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Esther Martin, a Portland resident for 75 years, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Colonial Mortuary. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Martin, a member of First Presbyterian Church here for 65 years, was a native of St. Johns, New Brunswick, and was 92 years old. She died Sunday at her residence, 2829 N. W. Cumberland Rd.

Survivors include a sister, Sadie Stephenson, Portland, and three nephews.

David Harry Stephenson, 62, of 2434 N. W. Overton street, a Portland mortgage loan and insurance man for several years, succumbed unexpectedly Friday. Born in 1880 at St. John, N. B. Canada, he had lived in the United States since 1885.

Surviving are the widow Marie; two sons, Bruce Edwin and David Harry Jr.; two sisters, Mrs. J. A. Martin and Sadie Stephenson. Funeral announcement will be made by Holman & Lutz mortuary.

George Clarence Stephenson, The Oregon Sunday Journal, 21 Apr 1940

George C. Stephenson, 74, a Portland resident 55 years and widely known amateur photographer, died unexpectedly early Saturday in Good Samaritan hospital. He suffered a stroke a week ago, but was thought to be improving and relatives had planned to take him home Saturday afternoon. A second stroke caused his death.

Mr. Stephenson had been employed at the Portland Iron works more than 50 years. He was active in the Trails and Mazama clubs and was official photographer for the Portland Garden club. Mr. Stephenson's photographs were used to illustrate Willard A. Eliot's book, "Forest Trees of the Pacific Coast."

Surviving are his wife, Mary E. Stephenson; two children, Mrs. I. R. Steigerwald and C. B. Stephenson; two sisters, Mrs. J. A. Martin and Sadie Stephenson, and a brother, D. H. Stephenson, all of Portland.

Funeral services will be arranged with Edward Holman & Son, and burial will be in Riverview cemetery.
