During Harald Hårfagre's reign there was a rather well-known man at Voss named Viking Kåre, who was the feudal lord there. He and Horda Kåre were the most prominent chieftains at Voss and Hordaland at that time. Viking Kåre was said to be son of Sigurd Bjodasteine, who presumably had lived at Bjodar in Søndhordaland (south Hordaland) and was in addition of Rognar Lodbroks (Leather-britches) lineage Kåres sons were chief Bødvar, chief Vigfus and Erik Bjodaskalle (Command-skull). Both Bødvar and Vigfus appeared to have lived at Voss and been chiefs there. In any case Bødvar was first and Vigfus later. Bødvars daughter was Ålov, who married Teit KitelbjørnsonBa famous man from Namdal in Trøndelag whose parents immigrated to Iceland. Their son was Gisur the White who brought Christianity to Iceland and was the father of bishop Isleiv. Ålov's daughter Jorun married the noted sagaist Elida-Grim...
...Erik Bjodaskalle (command-skull) -Viking Kåres third son-is well known in Norwegian history. He lived at Obrastader, supposedly on Jæderen (Jæren?); but Snorre locates the farm in Oppland, however no farm of that name can be found. His daughter Astrid was first married with King Trygve Olavson and was the mother of King Olav Trygveson and to Astrid, who married Erling Skjalgson, and to Ingeborg who married Earl Ragnvald in Gautland. The second time she married Lodin from Viken and had the sons Torkel Navja and two daughters. Erik also had four sons: Sigurd, who was in Holmgård with King Waldemar, Jostein, Karlshovde, and Torkel Dyrdel, all of who were prominent figures. Jostein was, for a while, commander of a fleet of Viking ships that operated around the British Isles. He and Torkel Dyrdel captained the Ormen Korte (Short-Snake) in the battle at Svolder. Torkel Nevja was commander of the Tranen (The Crane).
