Oscar Eugene Melin was born at Garfield, Minnesota, July 31, 1900, the son of Charles and Hilma Noreen Melin. Oscar grew up there and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Garfield. He made a commitment to Jesus Christ at 18 years of age. Oscar attended the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis and in 1924 began working for the Great Northern Railway. Oscar worked in Barnesville, Fargo, and Grand Forks, ND. Oscar married Ida Hanson at Fargo, ND on March 26, 1930. The couple moved to Grand Forks in 1936 where Oscar worked for the Great Northern until his retirement in 1967, after 43 years of continuous service to the Railway as a machinist. Oscar and Ida moved to rural Beltrami, Minnesota in 1972. Ida died September 27, 1974. Oscar had entered the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home at Erskine in 1975. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 7 brothers and 1 sister. Oscar is survived by two sons: Robert, Erie, Pa., Donald, Fertile, Minn.; and one daughter, Mrs. James (Phyllis) Larson, Fertile, Minn.; and 9 grandchildren. Oscar died at the Fosston Hospital, Fosston, Minnesota, Tuesday, April 20, 1982, at the age of 81. God bless his memory.
