Mrs. Olof Kolberg, Leaf Valley Pioneer, Buried Last Week

Mrs. Olof Kolberg, one of the pioneer women of the Leaf Valley area, passed away Tuesday, June 21, at St. Lukes hospital in Alexandria following a short illness.

Sophie Anna Melin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Melin, was born May 19, 1879, in Leaf Valley township and was 70 years of age at the time of her death. She grew up to womanhood there and lived at the same place until she was married.

On Dec. 17, 1900, in Alexandria, she was married to Olof Kolberg, who preceded her in death.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and has been a member of St. Lukes Lutheran church of Garfield all her life.

Mrs. Kolberg is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Walter Berglund (Mabel) of Alexandria, and Mrs. Edwin Sanstead (Alice) of Farfield, and one son, Harvey, at home; also three grandchildren and two brothers, Axel and Victor of Ida township. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, Mrs. Hannah Monson, and two brothers, Charley and Albert Melin.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 24, at 1:30 o'clock p. m. at the Engstrom Funeral chapel and at 2:00 p. m. at St. Lukes Lutheran church, with Dr. O. O. Gustafson officiating. Two songs, "God Will Take Care of You" and "Near to the Heart of God," were sung by Mrs. Arvid Johnson, accompanied by Mrs. Fred Olson.

Pallbearers were: Leonard Melin, C. Arthur Melin, Robert Larson, Fred Melin, Roy Strom and Clifford Strom. Interment was made in the church cemetery at Garfield.
