Another Old Settler Called.

Andrew Melin, one of the old settlers of Leaf Valley, passed away last Thursday, Sept. 6, at 4 o'clock that afternoon after an illness of four months' duration, of heart attack.

He was born [in] Hjersas, Skane, Sweden, in 1830. In 1864 he came to America, settling in Houghton, Mich., where he married Albertina Engstrom in 1867, and later in 1876 came to Douglas county. He settled first in Carlos where he lived for six years, and later bought the John Hold farm on the north end of Lake Ida, where he resided until his death.

He was a man held in high esteem by his many friends, always loving and kind to his family and those with whom he came in contact. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. The wife and children were all present at the end. The children are Charles J., of Ida; Albert, Victor, and Axel, who are at home, Mrs. Hanna Monson of Moorhead, and Mrs. Sofie Kolberg of Brandon township.

The funeral was held last Sunday from the Swedish Lutheran church of Ida and was largely attended by friends and relatives. The services were conducted by Rev. Freidenfeldt. The pall bearers were A. G. Johnson, A. Swenson, N. O. Christopherson, John A. Sanstead, H. Schultz, J. E. Norgren. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at the Swedish Lutheran church of Ida.
