Rites Held Monday For Axel Melin At Calvary Church

Funeral services for Axel Melin were held on Monday, June 8, at 12:30 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at the Calvary Lutheran church, with Rev. Nels Bengston officiating. Ted Ording sang two vocal solos, accompanied by Miss Irene Holmgren.

Pallbearers were Leonard Melin, Arvid Melin, Axel Melin, Fred Melin, Harvey Kolberg and Wallace Monson.

Interment was made in the Lake Ida Lutheran cemetery.

Axel Edward Melin was born in Leaf Valley township, Douglas county, June 24, 1884, the son of Andrew and Albertina Melin. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lake Ida Lutheran church and grew to manhood on his parent's farm. After the death of his parents, he purchased a farm in Ida township which has been his home for the past forty years.

Mr. Melin was active in all civic affairs and served many terms on the local town and school boards and also sreved [sp] for many years as a director of the Garfield elevator.

He passed away Friday evening, June 5, at the age of 68 years, 11 months, and 11 days.

Surviving are one brother, Victor Melin of Garfield, and 21 nieces and nephews.

Two brothers and two sisters have preceded him in death.
