Irene Josephine Melin was born April 6, 1912 in Ida Township, Douglas County. She was the daughter of Emily L. Peterson and Minnie Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Garfield, Minnesota. She attended school in Douglas County and graduated from the Alexandria High School. She was employed at the Orie Olson-George Teeson, Bob Carlisle Insurance for many years. In later years she worked at the Alexandria State Bank Agency. Irene was an active member of United Church of Christ. Irene was united in marriage to Arvid Melin who preceded her in death on December 12, 1955. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by one brother Daniel Weldon Peterson of Parkers Prairie and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was at the Congregational United Church of Christ on Tuesday, March 13, 1990, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Thomas Hartshorn officiating. Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota.

Pallbearers were Darrel V. Flaig, Gary Schuneman, George Schuneman, Eugene Anderson, Stanley Erickson, Clayton Thompson, Edwin Engstrom and Bob Carlisle.

Soloist was Dr. Thomas Hartshorn and organist was Jean Amundson.

Arrangements were by the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria, Minnesota.
