State of Vermont, --- Rutland, to wit:

Be it remembered, That at a term of the County Court, began and held at Rutland within and for the county aforesaid, on the Second Tuesday of September one thousand eight hundred and fifty six Edmund Pinders an alien and Irishmen born in the county of Cork in that part of Great Britain called Ireland in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty one at present residing at Castleton in the County of Rutland in the State of Vermont, did personally appear in court here, on this 13th day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty six aforesaid, and did then and there declare on oath as follows, to wit:

"You Edmund Pinders do solemnly swear that from this day, it is bona fide your intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Ireland whereof you are at present a subject: so help you God."

And afterwards, to wit, at the term of our said County Court, began and held at Rutland aforesaid, on the Second Tuesday of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty eight the said Edmund did again personally appear in Court and apply himself to the Court here to be admitted to become a citizen of the United States, conformably to the statutes of the said United States, in such case made and provided ; and by the affidavits of Patrick Curtin of Rutland & John Winters of the town of Castleton and native citizens of the said United States, which said affidavits are now here remaining, the said Edmund did prove to the satisfaction of the said Court, that he has resided within the said United States for five years, at least, next preceding this 2nd day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty eight and has resided within the State of Vermont, one year at least next preceding the date last mentioned; and furthermore, that during the time the said Edmund has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same.

Wherefore the said Edmund was admitted by the Court to declare and did declare before the Court, on oath, as follows, to wit:

"You Edmund Pinders do solemnly swear before the Court, now here, that you will support the Constitution of the United States, and that you do absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Ireland whereof you are heretofore a subject: so help you God."
