Husband's General Notes
Daniel lived on French Road in Gardenville and raised pigs. When he moved to East Aurora he continued to raise pigs. He enjoyed pigs immensely and played "ball" with them, taught them to come when he called. Although Daniel attempted to raise cows, even building huge barns for them, he returned to raising pigs which he enjoyed and which were more profitable. The farm employed at least seven hired hands from a nearby penitentury or "tramps" during the depression. Eventually the farm consisted of 177 acres, part of which was an airstrip used by his sons for their two seater, open cockpit plane. Upon his marriage, Daniel received from hi father a matching set of "the most beautiful horses in the county." He believed that one should never join an organization unless you could live by the rules. Because he had to work on Sunday, he could not always attend Mass with his wife so he didn't join the Catholic Church until his fiftieth wedding anniversary. The secret of Daniel's alcoholism was kept for many years. SSDI has death as Sept 1964

Obituary - Buffalo News PENFOLD - Curtis J., retired businessman 6/9/2002 A memorial Mass for Curtis J. Penfold, 81, former owner and operator of Aurora Sanitation Service, will be offered at 9:30 a.m. June 22 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 520 Oakwood Ave., East Aurora. Penfold died May 28, 2002, in the Golden Days Nursing Home in Spring Hills, Fla., after suffering several strokes. Born in Buffalo, Penfold was a graduate of East Aurora High School. He owned and operated Aurora Sanitation Service until 1976, when he sold the business to his son Timothy. Penfold was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Knights of Columbus, and was a past president of the Holy Name Society of Immaculate Conception Church. He had a summer home in Rushford. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, the former Nadine Putney; a daughter, Kathleen Christian of Florida; two sons, Richard of Orchard Park and Timothy of East Aurora; a sister, Gloria Bicheler of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a brother, William B. of East Aurora; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
