Timothy COE of Accomac Co., VA traces his history back to England to Sir

John COE (died 1425), who was knighted for bravery on the battlefield by

Edward III, and about whom Conan Doyle wrote one the first historical

novels, "The White Company."

(THROUGH THE YEARS WITH THE HUDSPETHS, Anna G. Ford, Vol. V, P 238)

"There are several English immigrants by the surname COE who came early to America. This particular family seems to descend from Timothy COE (I) of Accomac Co., Virginia, Timothy COE (II) of Sussex Co., Delaware, and Timothy COE (III), who died in Rowen Co., North Carolina in 1763."

(By Melba A. Rector in THE HERITAGE OF SURRY CO., NC)

BIRTH: About 1630 in England -- Just an estimate.

DEATH: 1688 will, Accomack Co., VA

(VIRGINIA WILLS AND ADMINISTRATIONS 1632-1800, Clayton Torrance)

[An index. I haven't requested a copy of the will.]

Virginia land records from CAVALIERS & PIONEERS by Nell Marion Nugent:

Vol. Page Patent Book Date

I 407 4-466 12 Apr 1661 Patented 300 acres, Northampton Co., VA

II 90 6-347 26 May 1673 "Tymothy" Coe owned land in Accomack Co.

It would appear that Timothy may have indentured himself to John Browne in exchange for his passage to Virginia and that his acquisition of land was after he had served his term of indenture.
