M??????/McWHINNIE, Margaret - D4/3/1847 - At Ballgreen, Stranraer, on the 4th inst., ??? Margaret M'Whinnie, spouse of the late William M????? Esq., of Ballgreen - a person much and justly regretted by her friends and acquaintances, as an affectionate f(riend) a kind neighbour and a sincere Christian. She (bore) a long and severe suffering with great patience and (resig)nation to the will of God, being possessed of ??? a well regulated mind which she had well stored pages of the book of God, the promises of which ??? only food that nourished her in her last illness, and the staff upon which she leaned in going down to the dark valley of the shadow of death.

MARTIN, John - D1/7/1845 - At Largie, near Campbelton, on the 1st instant, John Martin, at the patriarchal age of 104 years. He was a shepherd all his life, and had never been far removed from the place where he died. His hair, which in youth was black, became white, and within a few years of his death it was again becoming black. He has left about 85 descendants behind him, including children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

MARTIN, Captain Wm. - D10/10/1854 - At sea, off Cape Breton, on the 10th ultimo, Captain Wm. Martin, of the barque Mary Sharp of Garliestown. (From the way we were in the WFP Nov 16, 2004 - "We regret to add another to the list of shipwrecks of vessels belonging to this district, that of the barque Mary Sharp of Garliestown, Captain William Martin, the property of Messrs Marshall and Co., Garliestown. The Mary Sharp, in ballast, was bound for Quebec to take in a cargo of timber, and, on the morning of Tuesday 10th, when off the coast of Cape Breton, encountered a severe gale which drove her on a sunken reef off Woody Point near Main-a-Dieu. She struck at about half past two a.m. and in half an hour she became a total wreck and went to pieces. The master and six other hands perished. The remainder of the crew, eight in number, were saved."
