Westmoreland County Historical Society, Jacob Schneider's Will. In the name of God amen, I Jacob
Schneider of Donegal Township in the county of Westmoreland and Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania being very sick and weak of body, but of perfect mind and memory
thanks be given unto God calling into mind the mortality of my body and knowing
that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last
will and testament. That is to say
principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of
almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in
decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors ____ doubting but at
the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of
God and his teaching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless
me in this life I give devise and bequeath of the same in the following manner
and form. First I give and bequeath
to Ann my dearly beloved wife thirty acres of land including two acres of
meadow, two beds, two cows, four sheep, two bees, three rows apple trees, one
house to be built for her, also the one third of all the moveable property. The farm to be carried on by the family
until next Spring then make venture and sell all the moveable property. The plantation to be rented out for
three years and at the expiration of three years if my two sons that is Michael
and Daniel and if they choose to take the plantation for the three years then at
the expiration of three years there shall be two freeholders to praise the
valuation of said plantation. At
the praisement it shall be sold.
Alas, I give my well beloved son George a certain piece of land adjoining
said Georges land where he now lives about ninety or one hundred acres. I also give my well beloved daughter
Catherine two cows, one chest, one bed, four sheep, one saddle. I do give to my well beloved son Jacob
one horse creature, one set of plough irons, four sheep. The residue of my estate real as well as
personal shall be equally divided among my children. George Snyder and Joseph Blackburn whom
I constitute make and ordain the sole executors of this my last will and
testament all and singular my lands, messuages and tenements and I do hereby
utterly disallow revoke and discard all and singular every other former
testaments wills legacies bequests and executors by me in any way before named
willed bequested ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will
and testament. In witness whereas I
have hereunto set my hand and seal this eight day of April in the year of our
lord one thousand eight hundred eight.

proved in presence of subscribing witnesses Jacob Schneider Jr. having no real
estate divised to him his oath on probate taken on that ground. The witnesses both proved also the
interlineation of the words also the one third of all the moveable property
between the nineteenth and twentieth lines to have been interlined before the
signing sealing and acknowledging of the will by the
testator.
Note: Jacob Snyder, Sr. wrote his will 8 Apr
1808 and was proved 27 April 1808.
He is thought to have died after 18 Apr 1808, as some of his youngest
children were baptised on 18 Apr 1808 and both parents are listed for the
baptismal.

Joseph Blackburn to The Heirs of Jas [Jacob] Sneider. Know all men by these presents that
whereas Jacob Schneider of Donegal township Westmoreland county and commonwealth
of Pennsylvania deceased made his last will and testament in writing bearing
date the 8th day of April AD 1808 wherein and whereby I Joseph Blackburn was
made partner executor with his son George Snyder both of the above mentioned
place and whereas we the said
executors were made part heirs of the above deceased (either thro mistake or
ignorance, or some other inadvertance), I the said Joseph Blackburn do hereby
declare that my name was only used or intended by the above deceased as executor
in trust with his son George Schneider for to settle his estate and make
distribution there of amongst the heirs of said deceased as per will. Now know ye that I the said Joseph
Blackburn at the request of the heirs of the said Jacob Schneider deceased, have
remised released surrendered assigned and set over and by these presents do for
me my heirs and administrators freely and absolutely remised release surrender
and set over unto the heirs of the said deceased viz Ann Schneider wife of the
said deceased, George Schneider oldest son of the said deceased, Peter Miller
and Catharine his wife daughter of the said deceased, Jacob Schneider son of the
said deceased, Adam Schneider of the State of Ohio and Elizabeth his wife,
daughter of the said deceased, Michael Schneider son of the said deceased,
Daniel Schneider son of the said deceased, David Schneider son of the said
deceased, Jonathan Schneider son of the said deceased, Isaac Schneider son of
the said deceased, Mary Schneider daughter of the said deceased, Susana
Schneider daughter of the said deceased, Agness [Nancy] Schneider daughter of
the said deceased their heirs and administrators and every of them all the
estate right title interest claim or demand whatsoever which I the said Joseph
Blackburn my heirs or adm'rs can shall or may have or claim of in or to the said
premises or of or in any sum or sums of money or of or in any goods or chattels
whatsoever, wherein or whereof the said testator were possessed of in his life
time or at his death, or in or of any other property or thing whatsoever
belonging or in anywise appurtaining to the said estate of the said Jacob
Schneider deceased either mentioned, expressed or contained in his last will or
testament above recited so that neither I the said Joseph Blackburn or my heirs
at anytime or times hereafter shall or will claim challenge or demand any
interest property benefit or any other thing or manner whatsoever by reason or
measure of the said last will and testament of the said Jacob Schneider deceased
or any clause therein contained thereof and therefrom and from all actions suits
and demands which I or my heirs shall or may have concerning this and every
other person or persons claiming or to claim by from or under them or any of
them shall be excluded and forever discharged and forever debarred by these

executors of said deceased exhibited their administration records which was duly
examined passed and confirmed by the court, whereby it appears that the personal
estate of said deceased is $1252.00 that the payment and disbursements,
including $31.00 the executors charged for their trouble, and expenses is
$305.46, which deducting together with $1.73 the expense of the court leaves a
balance of 944.79 to be distributed agreeably to the last will and testament of
said testator.

bequeath unto we Jonathan Snyder and Isaac Snyder of Wayne County, Ohio state a
legacy to be paid unto us agreeable to said will and said will made and
constituted Joseph Blackburn of the county and state of first above mentioned
and George Snyder of Wayne County state Ohio executors as in and by the said
will may appear now know ye that we the said Jonathan and Isaac have made
ordained and constituted and appointed Jacob Snyder of Wayne County Ohio our
true and lawful attorney for us and in our name and for our use and benefit to
ask demand and use all lawful means in our name or otherwise for the recovery
thereof by attachment wrest

Jacob Snyder Sr. came to America from Alsace, France, where many family
names were German (Schneider), but the country at that time was French. He was
born in 1760 and migrated to Westmoreland Co., Pa. where he
died.
Grave and
tombstone could not be located, believe it may be on his plantation.
His plantation was
located between State 711 and Interstate 70, straddling country road 2031 near
Stahlstown, Donegal Twp., Westmoreland Co., Pa.
