Monday, January 26th, 1931 The Times

FUNERALS:   The King was represented by Colonel R.G.Earle, A.D.C., at the funeral of Major-General

Sir John Burn-Murdoch, which took place at Normanton on Soar, Loughborough, on Saturday. The officiating clergy

were Bishop Southwell, the Rev, H.B. Hamilton, Canon H.B.Lee, the Rev. J.P.Hales, and the Rev. J.Hamilton.

 

The family mourners included:-  Lady Burn-Murdoch (widow), Mrs.Hannah Cowles (sister-in-law), Mr.Cowles,

Dr.T.M.Burn-Murdoch (brother-in-law), Mrs.Forsyth, Mr.Alexander Burn-Murdoch, Colonel John Parker (brother-in-law),

Mr. Robert Parker, Captain B.Lewis, R.N.,Mr. and Mrs. Francis Burn Callander, Colonel and Mrs. Kenneth Bruce,

Professor W.de Burgh, and Mrs. Tunstall Ouseburn.

Mr. M.T.Woolley, Mr. H.Wood, Mr. Ezra Draper, Mr. Harry Dutton, Messrs D.Rimmer and J.W.Pidcock (Plumtree and

District British Legion), Major Heygate, Captain Abbott Robinson, Mr. K.Tweedale  Beeby (Clerk to the Justices for

Notts), Colonel Lemon (Chief Constable of Notts), Mr. R.J.Smith (Deputy Chief Constable of Notts)the Ven.

W.J.Coneybeare, Messrs F.W.P.Simpson and Norman Bailey (Loughborough Boat Club), Colonel Sir Lancelot

Rolleston, and Lieutenant L.C.Brewill (Robin Hoods).

 

Members of the Royal Dragoons Comrades’ Club were present, as well as a squad from the Leicestershire Yeomanry

(Prince Albert’s Own). 

Last Post and Reveille were sounded.

1938, Loughborough Echo

FUNERAL:  Normanton on Soar:  The internment of Mr. Robert SWARBROOKE took place in the churchyard last Friday.

The Rector, the Rev.J.C. HAMILTON, officiated, and Mrs HAMILTON was at the organ. The chief mourners were:

The widow, Mrs. SWARBROOKE (mother),  Mr. and Mrs. William SWARBROOKE (brother & sister-in-law) and Mrs.

GIBBS (mother-in-law). Deceased, who was four years Clerk and Sexton with the late Rev. H.B.HAMILTON,was of a

cheerful disposition and well liked, and it came as a great shock to all in the village when they  heard of his death.

He leaves a widow and son. Among the beautiful floral tributes were those from "His dear wife & son", "Sorrowing

mother", "Brother William, Faith & family", "Arnold & Dick", "John, Lizzie & Aunt Maggie", "Mr. & MrsHALL (Radford)", "Mrs.LOSEBY and family," "Mr. and Mrs. H. HATTON,"Mr. and Mrs. L. PEBERDY," "Mr. and Mrs WOOLLEY," "Mr. and

Mrs. BESWICK, Leake Pit House."

(Note: Robert was buried 16th Sep 1938. The "Arnold & Dick referred to in the floral tributes was Arnold & Dick PEBERDY
