MARTROM LEWIS, said to be son of John LEWIS IV and Sarah HARDING, b, probably ca 1780's, Cherry Point area of VA, now Hampshire Co, WV. In 1803 he secured land (Survey # 929) on the Piruque Creek (River) in MO. Martrom was killed in 1806. In 1833, his property on the Piruque was sold, the proceeds going to his sole heir, William Hardin Lewis, who by then was in LA. Need *any* information on *this* Martrom. He is not to be confused with Martrom Lewis, b VA 1795, son of John Baptist Lewis and Elizabeth Harvie, nor with their son Martrom D. Lewis, but any information on them would also be welcome. I am looking for MORDECAI LEWIS, likely born 1803 in TN. He married Margaret Anne Stevens, dau of Conrad stevens and Anna Barbara Susong. Mordecai and Margaret settled in DeSoto Co, MS. They parented Volney Carlisle Lewis in 1845 in DeSoto Co. An older Mordecai Lewis appears in Sevier Co, TN records around 1800, and he may have died there in 1818. Mordecai is found in Overton Co in 1820 and Fentris Co in 1830 (twice) & 1840 in TN census records. How many Mordecai's are out there?

I have not been able to find the parents or siblings of NEWTON LEWIS b. 1896 OK d. 1981. married Meda Ione HOLT in 1920's. Lived in Fayette or Effingham County in the 1940's.

Had two sons; Junior LEWIS b. approx 1920 graduated Beecher City High School May 1940, served in WWII, and Charles Eugene LEWIS b. 19 Sep 1926 d. 17 Jan 1983, graduated Beecher City High School in approx.1946?, served in Korean War,m. Mary Arlene LILLY 8 Jun 1946. One daughter name UNKNOWN. All graduated from Beecher City High School.

Newton LEWIS owned oil well and some land in Effingham County, IL. He also lived in Oklahoma before moving here. Have you come across this name in your reasearch?
