Obituary*2 June 2010 Dr. William Donald Culpepper, 81, died Sunday, May 30, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, June 3, 2010 at All-Saints Episcopal Church, 634 W. Peachtree NW, Atlanta, Georgia. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am, Friday, June 4, 2010 at Riverside Cemetery, 2000 Cotton Avenue, Albany, Georgia.
     Dr. Culpepper, son of the late Lee Roy Culpepper, Sr. and Gladys J. Culpepper was born October 30, 1928 in Albany, Georgia and had lived in Atlanta, Georgia all of his adult life.
     Dr. Culpepper graduated from Albany High School. Dr. Culpepper entered Emory University for his pre-dental education and attended Emory University School of Dentistry (EUSD) until 1951. He then joined EUSD faculty in 1951. Dr. Culpepper served in the U.S. Air Force dental corp for two years and then rejoined EUSD's faculty. In 1951, Dr. Culpepper received a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Emory University School of Dentistry. In 1958, he received a Master of Science in Prosthodontics, also from Emory. Dr. Culpepper was a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics at Emory University School of Dentistry from 1957 to 1988. He was Treasurer and Past President of the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics. He was Secretary and Past President of the American Board of Prosthodontics. He was ABP's first Executive Director, a position he held from 1990 until he retired in 2001. Dr. Culpepper published several articles on prosthodontics in the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, and the Journal of Dental Education and Dental Clinics of North America. He was a Fellow in the American College of Dentists and the American College of Prosthodontists; and was Editor of the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry for the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics for several years.
     Dr. Culpepper loved his precious dogs, Poco, Heidi, Max and Cody. He enjoyed traveling, good food, music and great friends. His laugh was contagious and will be remembered by so many.
     Dr. Culpepper is survived by his sister-in-law, Nell Hautman Culpepper, niece, Brenda Griffin (Bunk), nephew, Lee Culpepper III (Sherry), all of Macon, Georgia niece, Joy Crawford (Stan) of Leesburg, Georgia. His brother, Lee Roy Culpepper, Jr., preceded Dr. Culpepper in death.
     Arrangements are with Kimbrell Stern, Albany, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Culpepper's memory may be made to Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista N.E. Atlanta, Georgia 30319 or Atlanta Animal Companion Rescue Foundation, 182 Hilderbrand Dr. NE Sandy Springs, Georgia 30328-5919.1
