I am in possession of the picture from my father, who got it from his father, who got it from wife, Ruby Dimple Culpepper, daughter of Edward Lee Culpepper, son of Rev AA and Elizabeth. I have a much higher resolution of the picture if you need it. Also, thanks for such great work on your site, I use it a lot.

The information above is from the back of the picture.
It was written by Glynn Royce Alexander. The picture was in the possession of Glynn Royce Alexander when he died (May 14 1994) at the old house on Fir Street in Lockhart, Texas. My guess is that Glynn's father, James Rufus Alexander, who also died in that same house (Oct 15 1982), had the picture from his wife, Ruby Dimple Culpepper, died Jul 24 1947. Ruby Dimple died at the age of 47, from breast cancer, and probably had the picture in her possession from her father, Edward Lee Culpepper, who is the left first person, back row, in the picture. I would date the picture was taken somewhere in the early 1900s, in Bastrop County, Texas, where the Rev. Amos Allison Culpepper and wife Elizabeth Dail Culpepper lived from 1886 until their death, Apr 15 1923, Mar 20 1928, respectfully. Edward Lee Culpepper appears to be in his late 20s or early 30s. Ruby Dimple Culpepper was the mother of my father, Glynn Royce Alexander, and Edward Lee Culpepper, was my father's maternal grandfather. I am Glynn's son, Russell Alexander, now in possession of the picture.8,9

Burial*circa 17 April 1923 His body was interred circa 17 April 1923 at Old Red Rock Cemetery, Red Rock, Bastrop Co., Texas
Biography* Amos was a Primitive Baptist minister. Descendant Loris Brewer points out that an interesting account of Red Rock, TX, where the Rev. Culpepper lived, can be found at:
http://www.redrocktexas.com/History/history.htm

From Loris, we learn that "the Amos Culpepper family moved to Texas in 1870, sometime after the October 1870 census in Georgia. I am at a loss to explain why they did not appear in the 1880 Texas census even though it is known that they were in Caldwell County as early as 1873. The Amos Culpepper family bible has never surfaced. Some think it may have been lost in a home fire in about 1910."

Rev. Amos A. Culpepper is mentioned in the "History of the Primitive Baptists in Texas, Oklahoma, and Indian Territory," which can be found at http://www.primitivebaptist.org/J.S.Newman/history/southwest_texas_association.htm

The following is From descendant Russell Alexander, son of Glynn Royce Alexander. The information is from the back of a family photo in Russell's possession (on this page):

Front Row, Left to Right, Julia Evaline, Rev. Amos Allison, Elizabeth Dale, Remilicent.

I am Glynn's son, Russell Alexander, now in possession of the picture.5,6

Extinct Surname?* The family branch headed by Paul Adolphus Culpepper is believed to have no living male descendants with the Culpepper surname. If you know otherwise, please contact Lew Griffin using the link at the bottom of this page.
Birth*2 February 1885 Paul was born at Bastrop Co., Texas, on 2 February 1885.2
(Son) 1900 Census1 June 1900 Paul and Joel was listed as a son in Rev. Amos Allison Culpepper's household on the 1900 Census at Caldwell Co., Texas.3
(Son) Photographedsay 1908 He appeared as a son in a family photograph say 1908 at Bastrop Co., Texas,
From Russell Alexander

On Back Row, Left to Right, Edward Lee, William Henry "Will," Amos Allison, Jr., and then the 2 twins, Joel Rudolphus "Joe," and Paul Adolphus (the identification of which twin is which was by Gary Culpepper, the grandson of Joel Rudolphus)

Front Row, Left to Right, Julia Evaline, Rev. Amos Allison, Elizabeth Dale, Remilicent.

I am Glynn's son, Russell Alexander, now in possession of the picture.4,5

Front Row, Left to Right, Julia Evaline, Rev. Amos Allison, Elizabeth Dale, Remilicent.

I am Glynn's son, Russell Alexander, now in possession of the picture.4,5

Burial*circa 23 December 1944 His body was interred circa 23 December 1944 at Old Red Rock Cemetery, Red Rock, Bastrop Co., Texas
Biography* From Loris O. Brewer Jr., August 2002:

The farm they were living on at that time belonged to Homer Ferguson, the twin brother of my mother's second husband, Henry Ferguson. The farm was just over the Bastrop County line, about 2-3 miles NE of Lytton. By the way one of Homer Ferguson's sons -- Rex Ferguson -- is still living in Lytton at
the ripe old age of 94!

Not too long after the picture of my grandmother Culpepper was taken she became ill. My Aunt Janie (Willowdean's mother) had her brought to Lockhart to stay with her. My grandmother was eventually diagnosed as having stomach cancer and she ultimately died there in Aunt Janie's home in January 1939.

That was just about the end of my grandfather Culpepper's farming days. He had to give it up in 1940 as he no longer had farm hands to help him. All his boys had gone into the service and all the girls had long since married.
Uncles Reuben, Dean, and Paul, were called up with the Texas 36th Infantry Division in 1940 and Uncle O'Neil went into the CCC and then joined the Marine Corps shortly after Pearl Harbor.

Late in 1940, my grandfather then went to Red Rock to live with Aunt Lora, his oldest living daughter. He died there in 1944.
