From Peggy Culpepper Oliver, another daughter: "While Daddy did cook at the Texas cowboy Reunion at Stamford, Tx., he was the round-up cook for all the 6666 ranch regular round-ups all year long. That is where this picture was taken, I believe it was on the South Camp site. I have more photos taken at the same time where they were raising the tent and more. I also have a wonderful one where the cowboys were playing poker on a bucket. These photos along with this one on the website were taken by Artist Tom Ryan and a painting was made from them called "Two more for chow". The painting was used on a calendar which Brown & Bigalow commissioned Tom Ryan to make for them. Tom sent Daddy & Mother a copy of the calender print and autographed it which I now have."1  |

| Biography* | The following is from Kenneth Culpepper's daughter Pat Roberts (Mrs. Kenneth N. Roberts): Kenneth R. Culpepper enlisted in the Army July 10, 1936 and was discharged with an Honorable Discharge from the Regular Army on July 10, 1939. He was in the Machine Gun Troop, 5th Calvalry (Horse) at Fort Clark Texas. He went in as a Private and came out a Private, character Excellent (Peace Time). He was then in the Regular Army Reserve for one year and one month and was discharged by Command of Brigadier General Donovan. Kenneth ran away from home when he was 17, and fibbed about his age to get into the Army. His military papers show his birth date as July 27, 1915. His actual birth date is July 27, 1919. His occupation was shown as a farmer. At enlistment time his address was Anson, Texas. While he was in service he was a Welter Weight Boxer. Dad told me about this. He was inspired by stories of Colonel McKinzie. He rode "Jumping Horse Domino" into Madison Square Garden against Bartender and won second place. I don't have any thing to prove this, but I was told that he whipped the "Midget of Mexico" as a welter weight boxer. |

His discharge was given because he had married September 21, 1940 and by 1941 his wife (my mother) was pregnant with their first child which changed his status. Scott Willingham, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Culpepper was born in Paris, Texas. He was an Army veteran, serving in World War II. A Dumas resident for 33 years, he retired in 1983 as an operator for Phillips Petroleum. He was a member of First Baptist Church. His wife, Leona Culpepper, died in 1985. He also was preceded in death by a son, Joe Culpepper, in 1983. Survivors include a daughter, Joy Robertson of Dumas; a sister Juanita Dixon of Friendswood; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family will be at 401 Brickey. They suggest memorials be to the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106, or to a favorite charity. |

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the Santa Anna Cemetery Pavilion. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. She was born Vera Alice Weldon, the daughter of LeRoy Weldon and Gladys Willis Weldon, on January 24, 1927 in Hudson, Wisconsin. She grew up in Minnesota and attended school there. She moved with her family to Coleman County. She married Lacy Culpepper in Coleman County. He preceded her in death on July 23, 1986. She loved her family and enjoyed traveling. She was a Baptist. Survivors include nine children, Bernidine Raines and husband, Dennis, of Abilene, Tommy Culpepper and wife, Teresa, of Brownwood, Sharon Alvey and husband, Ronald, of Frisco, Susan Barnes of Crawford, Jerry Don Culpepper and wife, Susie, of Zephyr, Brenda Barker and husband, Jim, of Winfield, Tony Culpepper of Brownwood, James Culpepper and wife, Karyn, of Lemoore, California, Connie Massey of Abilene; one brother, John Matthews and wife, Pat, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 18 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and a son-in-law, Kevin Massey. Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2012 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.
