Hattie married Curtis 'Curt' Culpepper on February 2, 1917 in Pike County, Alabama. The marriage is recorded in Book 10, page 78. Curtis was 18 years older than Hattie and had been previously married to Florence Ingram, born 2/19/1885 - died 9/15/1915. Hattie died only a few months after she and Curt married. Her death was on September 5, 1917 and is recorded in Volume 13, Roll 1, page 195. She is buried at Ramah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Josie, Alabama."2 |

Biography* | | On 29 Aug 2005, Patti Anne Culpepper Gaines wrote: "There is a Veterans Stone at the foot of daddy's grave, but I assure you he never went to Viet Nam - I think his wife had it put there, she wasn't married to him while he was in the army and maybe she just assumed he did a tour there and requested the stone. I know he did short terms in both the Navy and the Air Force before going into the army. His mother died when he was around 3 and his father died when he was around 12 and he had nowhere to go. He stayed where ever anyone would let him until he was 16 and lied about his age to get into the service. After the Navy and Air Force, but before the Army, he was the first motorcycle cop in Phenix City, AL! I never really believed that until June of this year when I read it in the local newspaper in the 'fifty years ago today' column. It said he operated a big Harley Davidson machine. Wish I knew where that bike is today."5 |

Mr. Culpepper is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mrs. Suzette Jordan Culpepper; one son: Randy L. (Peggy) Culpepper of Cape Girardeau, MO; one daughter: Beth Culpepper (John) Boyd of Farmington, KY; sister: Martha Young of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren: Brian Schuster, Tammy Tucker, Derek Culpepper, Ben Boyd, and Lillie Boyd; and four great grandchildren.
Preceded in death were his parents: Leon and Fredah Jett Culpepper; two brothers: Richard Linder and Bill Linder; and three sisters: Annie Canter, Myrtle Gardner and Elsie Smith.
Funeral services for Mr. Culpepper will be held at 11 am, Friday, Augusta 1, 2014 at the Byrn Funeral Home. Rev. Ronnie Stinson, Jr. and Rev. Ronnie Stinson, Sr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Derek Culpepper, Ben Boyd, Mitch Tucker, John Boyd, Brian Schuster and Matt Robertson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Lemond, Larry Smith, Jerry Humes and Dave Robertson.1 |
